Epsom Derby 2020 – Predictions and Betting Tips

One of the biggest races in the calendar is upon us with the Epsom Derby 2020 (as well as the Oaks) scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at the world-famous Surrey track.

Some of the best-known jockeys and horses have won this prestigious contest down the years and tomorrow’s line-up sees some potential superstars race against each other.

Can Frankie Dettori win another Derby? Will one of Aiden O’Brien’s runners emerge triumphant? Whatever happens, it is sure to be a scintillating race on the Downs and we will give you our expert knowledge into one of the jewels in the racing calendar.

Epsom Derby Predictions 2020

Sixteen runners go to post for this year’s renewal and it promises to be an exciting encounter between the best three-year-old colts in Great Britain and Ireland.

The marginal favourite for this race is English King, ridden by Frankie Dettori and trained by Ed Walker. He was very impressive when winning at Lingfield last time out in an important trial for this race and he broke the track record in the process.

Epsom is a very unique track with its undulations and Lingfield is as close to Epsom as you can get in terms of its contours so the tricky navigation of the course should hold no fear for the favourite and he has plenty in his favour.

His big danger is Mogul (5/1). He was a brilliant two-year-old but was a shade disappointing last time out. However, he has the right man training him in O’Brien and could well give English King most to think about.

For longer odds, Worthily is a very interesting contender. Trained by John Gosden, he has only had one race in his life but won easily at Newbury. He will need to improve again to feature but he could be one to side with at a bigger price.

Epsom Derby Betting Tips

  • To win – English King – 7/2
  • Each way – Worthily – 33/1

Epsom Oaks Predictions 2020

This race is the female equivalent of the Derby, exclusively for three-year-olds. Although only eight runners go to post, it is a very competitive affair and, although, there is a short-priced favourite, she is by no means a certainty to win this race.

Love (11/10) is from the all-conquering O’Brien stable and she has some very good form under her belt, including winning the 1000 Guineas decisively. However, this represents a step up in trip and she is not guaranteed to stay. We think she should be opposed.

Frankly Darling, for us, is the likely winner. She has won over this 1m 4f trip before, when winning comfortably at Ascot last time out. Can Dettori make it a big-race double? We think he can!

For longer prices, Gold Wand could run a blinder. She saw out the 1m 2f trip at Newbury really well last time and won in good style. Another two furlongs to travel won’t harm her chances.

Epsom Oaks Betting Tips

  • To win – Frankly Darling – 15/8
  • Each way – Gold Wand – 14/1
