Manchester City v Chelsea Preview

We’ve got a clash of the titans this weekend in a match that doubles as a Champions League final dress rehearsal, and an FA Cup semi-final replay. Oh, and Manchester City could seal the Premier League title.

City’s neighbours Manchester United won the treble back in 1999, and Chelsea ended their hopes of repeating the feat and going one better when they beat them at Wembley Stadium a few weeks ago in the FA Cup semi-final. They’ve already played twice this year, so they’ll be familiar and this match will likely not be the most exciting of matches.

After both teams earned Champions League Final spots this week, expect to see some squad rotation in play. This will probably adversely affect bets on City more than Chelsea, who desperately need some big wins to maintain their spot in fourth place.

We picked Manchester City to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, and we were wrong. It was a cagey affair, but Hakim Ziyech’s 55th minute goal sent the slight underdogs to the FA Cup final. The result ended City’s hopes of an unprecedented quadruple, and we’d imagine they’ll be looking to punish Chelsea with a strong showing here.

Manchester City vs Chelsea Odds

Chelsea are pretty heavy underdogs at 3/1 for victory, while Manchester City 20/21 favourites for the win. The draw is a 49/20 shot, which we did back in our Premier League preview.

Manchester City vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.

Riyad Mahrez to score anytime11/5

He had a stunning performance against PSG in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final, and we’re expecting another great showing from Riyad Mahrez. He must have been raging to miss out on a hat-trick after a few chances missed the mark following his double, that sent the Manchester side to their first ever Champions League final. If he isn’t rested, we expect to see him back on the scoresheet after a fantastic two weeks, and at 11/5 Mahrez is a great value bet in this market. It’s also worth noting that he is 5/1 to score first.

Manchester City to win to nil39/20

Only thrice since the start of December, Pep Guardiola’s team have failed to score, two times against their local rivals Manchester United and once against Thomas Tuchel’s men at Wembley. There’s a reason why this game was so tight last time out, and we’d imagine it’ll be similar this time around. We’re going for a reverse of last time out, which would be similar to their first meeting in the league this year.

Chelsea to win3/1

The Blues won last time out, so it’s not inconceivable that they would do it again. Especially when they have more on the line than City, who even with a loss here will clinch the league title at some stage over the next few weeks, if Manchester United don’t hand it to them against Aston Villa. At 3/1, Chelsea winning is actually pretty good value, so if you think our main prediction is wrong, you could make a few quid off this bet.
