Epsom Derby 2021 Preview, Odds and Betting Tips

The Epsom Derby is one of the most coveted races of the season, whether you are a fan of Flat or National Hunt racing. This race is deemed to be the most prestigious of the five Classics and was first run way back in 1730.

Some of the greatest names in horse racing have won this race such as Nijinsky, Shergar, Sea the Stars and Golden Horn and the meeting is normally attended by the Her Majesty the Queen.

Alongside those legendary horses, jockeys such as Frankie Dettori, Ryan Moore and William Buick have enjoyed victories in this race and all three have live contenders again.

The undulating feature of the track is unique and can find out some of the very best horses. The 1m4f race starts at the top of the course and winds its way round Tattenham Corner before a furious gallop down the hill to the famous winning post.

This year’s renewal looks a strong one so let us take a look at some of the best horse racing bets you could find on our NetBet site!

Epsom Derby Preview

This year’s race looks set to be a fascinating renewal and although Aidan O’Brien has only one runner this time around, he has the hot favourite in Bolshoi Ballet at 11/10. O’Brien has won this race eight times, including three in the past four years and this strapping colt has a fantastic chance to make it a stunning nine wins.

His big threat looks to come from Mohaafeth. This 7/1 shot has done nothing but improve all season, including rattling off a hat-trick last time out with an extremely impressive win at Newmarket in early May.

The betting is very competitive with two other horses joining Mohaafeth in the betting at 7s; John Leeper and Mac Swiney. John Leeper has only had three races in his career but won his last two races in great style. This represents a big step-up in class but he has Frankie Dettori on board and the Italian knows his way around Epsom better than anyone.

Mac Swiney is an Irish-trained horse and he won the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh with a gutsy display, making all the running and doggedly holding on. This step up in trip from a mile to a mile-and-a-half may not suit him but he will give everything for his connections.

One horse we like at longer odds is Third Realm at 12/1. Like John Leeper, this horse is lightly raced but won his last two, including a facile success in the Derby Trial at Lingfield, which is always a good guide to this race.
