Netherlands v Czech Republic Preview

Could this be one of the sleeper matches of the last 16 round of Euro 2020? We really think that it could.

Netherlands struggled with a similar style of team in the Ukraine, and have actually lost their last two matches with the Czechs.

This match will be a lot more difficult for the Netherlands than the odds perhaps suggest, but if they can maintain their group stage form, they probably should make it through the dogged Czechs.

That is, of course, assuming they can defend against Patrik Schick’s halfway line efforts!

Netherlands v Czech Republic Betting Odds

Netherlands are pretty heavy favourites here, but not so much that it would be the worst idea to bet on them winning within the 90 minutes.

Remember that this is a knockout game, so if it goes to extra-time and/or penalties and the team you have backed to win goes through, you have still lost the bet. You must bet on the ‘to qualify’ market to back a team to go through via any method.

The Netherlands are 4/6 for victory (20/59 to qualify), with the draw a 57/20 shot and the Czech Republic are pretty wide underdogs with a price of 17/4 (9/4 to qualify).

Czech Republic to qualify9/4

We said it about the Italy and Austria game, but it bears repeating that knockout football has the potential to see some big upsets going down, and this wouldn’t even be that massive of a shock in the grand scheme of things. These sides played in qualifying for the last tournament with Sunday’s underdogs coming out on top both times. Honestly, the teams aren’t so different that this game just becomes a foregone conclusion, and it could end up being a tasty clash of styles.

Half Time/Full Time: Tie/Netherlands10/3

This match could be tight early, and we reckon that it might take the favourites some time to break down their opponents on the night. We love the price on this result, but also like Tie/Tie at 17/1.

Patrik Schick to score anytime14/5

The Czech Republic star scored twice against Scotland and then again when they played Croatia, putting him In the running as a contender for the Golden Boot. He’s currently behind Cristiano Ronaldo with three, and could get himself back in contention if he can score here and help get his team through to the quarter-finals, where they could end up playing Portugal if the results go their way. Perhaps he’ll be hoping they don’t!
