Switzerland v Spain Preview

Euro 2020 tournament favourites France were stunned by Switzerland last time around, and now it’s Spain’s turn to take on one of Euro 2020’s surprise packages.

The Swiss are being given about as much of a chance as they were in the last 16, which is to say almost none, but Spain ought to heed the mistakes made by France if they are to sneak through to set up a massive semi-final with either Belgium or Italy.

Concise attacks, shored up with a solid back-line will be a necessity, because if Luis Enrique’s men play it fast and loose like they did with Croatia, then they are at severe risk of being sent packing in the last eight.

Switzerland v Spain Betting Odds

The oddsmakers are being a little bit harsh on underdogs Switzerland here, perhaps signalling their disbelief that at this stage of the tournament, they are even here at all.

Remember that this is a knockout game, so if it goes to extra-time and/or penalties and the team you have backed to win goes through, you have still lost the bet. You must bet on the ‘to qualify’ market to back a team to go through via any method.

Switzerland are 19/4 for victory (5/2 to qualify), with the draw a 14/5 shot and Spain coming in as sizable favourites with a price of 20/31 (4/13 to qualify).

Spain win and both to score47/20

We could definitely picture goals in this game, and while Spain are pretty hard to back as favourites, this market seems to show some promise in terms of value. Spain conceded not one, not two, but three goals against Croatia in the last round, and Poland have also managed to find the net against them, so we could definitely see this game getting tasty.

Switzerland to qualify5/2

If you have to back a Swiss win, you might as well give yourself the safety net of suggesting that they will do it after the 90 minutes. The beauty of this market is that it still includes a possible win within normal time, but it also gives you that extra bit of security, and at this stage of a knockout tournament at this level, prices like this don’t come around too often

Ferran Torres to score anytime11/5

He looked good last time out, and managed to get on the scoresheet, so we’re going to back Ferran Torres for another goal this time around. If you’re fishing around this market, we also quite fancy Xherdan Shaqiri at a tantalising price of 9/2. He’s scored twice in this tournament already, both against Turkey, so we definitely think there is a chance that he could find his name among the scorers for this one too.
