EFL Betting Tips, Predictions and Match Previews

With the Premier League taking a pause in action after a busy Christmas and New Year, we’ve turned our attention to the EFL for this weekend’s action. Our expert tipster at NetBet has picked out some of the best EFL bets available on NetBet Sport’s football odds page to help you with your accumulator.

Middlesbrough to beat Coventry – 11/10

Just two points separates these sides in the league, and both go into this tie knowing a win could be crucial in the race for a play-off spot. Middlesbrough are in the best form of their campaign, having won six of their last eight league games, losing just once. Their solidity has been key to their success, and only three teams have a better defensive record than Chris Wilder’s side. The hosts have also fared better at the Riverside this season, picking up 26 points on home soil, compared to 16 on the road. The visitors have had a similar campaign, with less points coming away from home. It is set up to be a tight and cagey affair, but Middlesbrough look to have the slight edge.

Fulham to beat Blackpool – 3/10

No team in English football’s top four flights has scored as many goals as Fulham this season, and it’s not particularly close. Marco Silva’s side have hit the peak of their goalscoring powers in 2022, and have scored 22 goals in four games since the turn of the New Year. Aleksander Mitrovic has already had the most productive individual campaign of his career with 27 goals and seven assists, and there are still 19 league games remaining. The Serbian target man is set to obliterate the record goalscoring Championship season of 30 goals, shared by Glenn Murray and Ivan Toney. Automatic promotion looks inevitable, and given Blackpool have lost four straight away games, it looks like the Cottagers will pick up their fifth win on the bounce.

Wigan to beat Cheltenham – 20/27

Wigan are in a remarkable position, sat at the summit of League One with four games in hand over Sunderland in second place and two games in hand over third. The Latics have not lost a game in any competition since October and they have won 11 of their last 12. Will Keane is in the form of his life, scoring six in his last six games, taking his tally to 14 for the season. It was a comfortable 2-0 for Wigan when these two met earlier in the season, and with Cheltenham not having won in 10, Leam Richardson’s side shouldn’t have too much trouble dispatching of the 18th place home side.

Rotherham to beat Crewe – 1/2

With games in hand over Sunderland, Rotherham will be fancying their chances of a shot at automatic promotion this season. They have the best defensive record in the league with just 18 goals conceded, of which only five have been conceded in 12 games on the road. The Millers have lost just twice in their last 20 league games, a stark contrast to Crewe who have lost 11 in that period. In the two meetings between these sides this season, Rotherham have been thoroughly dominant in both. Crewe managed to hold on for a point in the reverse fixture, but Paul Warne’s side ran away 4-2 winners in the EFL Trophy round of 16. We expect the visitors to control proceedings once more, and with Michael Smith in search of the Golden Boot, Rotherham should come out on top.

Mansfield to beat Leyton Orient – 11/10

Despite sitting down in seventh, only league leaders Forest Green have accumulated more points than Mansfield Town in the last 15 games. They have won 10 of their last 12 league games, and if it weren’t for a poor start to the campaign, the Stags would be in contention for automatic promotion. They will host a Leyton Orient side that haven’t won away from home since early October, with only three teams picking up fewer points on the road this season. Orient have failed to score in their three consecutive away defeats, and it seems unlikely they can stop the Mansfield train from rolling on.

Newport County to beat Barrow – 4/5

Despite the expected absence of League Two’s top goalscorer Dominic Telford through injury, Newport will be strong favourites to win this tie. Not only have they been devastatingly clinical in front of goal, but the Exiles have also tightened up defensively in recent outings, keeping three consecutive clean sheets. The visitors come into this game searching for some form that could save their football league status. Down in 21st place, Barrow have won just once in their last six league games, losing four and failing to score in three. Although a win would be huge in their race for safety, it’s a mammoth task for them to stop Newport’s momentum and upset the odds.
