Leeds vs Man United Football Preview

Leeds are yet to get one over on United since returning to the English top-flight, and you have to take a trip back to 2002 for the last time Leeds were victorious against the Red Devils in the league, with Harry Kewell scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at Elland Road.

Since that day, United have won four of the six meetings between these sides in the league, with the other two ending all square. Leeds will be looking to make history this weekend, but after winning just once in their last five games, Marcelo Bielsa’s side won’t be full of confidence.

Although United got back to winning ways against Brighton on Tuesday night, they were largely outplayed for the first 45 minutes, and it wasn’t until a Cristiano Ronaldo goal and Lewis Dunk red card in quick succession that Ralf Rangnick’s side began to exert control.

The last couple of trips to Old Trafford haven’t been filled with success for Leeds, with Bielsa’s side conceding 11 in two games. However, when they welcomed United to Elland Road towards the end of last season, they managed to earn a 0-0 draw.

It’s looking unlikely that we’ll see another goalless encounter between these two. United have bundles of attacking talent, but have looked shaky at the back, whilst Leeds have scored three in two of their last four games, but only Norwich have conceded more this season.

Leeds persistence to play Bielsa’s way will certainly cater to United, who tend to excel when given space to attack, rather than when asked to unlock compact defences. However, the hosts will fancy their chances of getting at the visiting back-line, and their high tempo and press will certainly ask questions.

Our NetBet win probability counter thinks a United win is slightly more likely than not at 51%, whilst a draw and Leeds win are given a similar chance at 25% and 24%.

Leeds vs Man United Football Odds

It’s been a long time since United last tasted league defeat to Leeds, and the bookies think that run will continue with the visitors favourites at 5/6. The hosts aren’t in the best form, but will fancy their chances as underdogs at 29/10, with a draw priced at 5/2.

Leeds vs Man United Betting Tips

*Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.

Man Utd Win and Both to Score – 9/4

Recent results aside, all the stats will tell you United have improved under Rangnick. The win over Brighton will bring some confidence, and although they don’t look completely settled at the back, they have played some slick stuff in the last few games.

Create YourBet Special: Man Utd win, Over 0.5 first-half goals, Over 2.5 goals, Ronaldo to score first – 11/1

Leeds promise intensity, and with the way they are likely to attack United with and without the ball, it could make for an open game and a fast start. Ronaldo should have had a hat-trick against Brighton, but if United can feed him the ball in and around the box, he’s almost certain to take a chance.

Tie with Goals – 16/5

On their day, Bielsa’s side can match any team. With the injuries they have, we’re not sure they will be able to pull off an upset, but they certainly won’t be showing the visitors any respect.
