Liverpool vs Real Madrid Football Preview

Real Madrid will come into this tie full of confidence after waltzing their way to the La Liga title and mounting a historic semi-final comeback against Manchester City. With 13 titles already to their name, nobody knows how to get the job done in Europe quite like Los Blancos – and what’s more, they are led by Carlo Ancelotti, the competition’s joint most successful manager.

Liverpool will need to pick themselves up following the heartbreak suffered on the final day of the Premier League season, but a win on Saturday would see them surpass Bayern Munich and tie AC Milan as the second most decorated club in the competition. The Reds emerged victorious when these two met in the 1981 European Cup final, but it was Madrid who claimed the crown with a 3-1 win in 2018.

The Spaniards have had the better of recent matchups between these sides, winning four of five meetings in the last decade, with the other ending all square. Given the form of Karim Benzema this season, it’s difficult to bet against Madrid. The 34-year-old has registered the most prolific campaign of his career, netting 44 goals in 45 games in all competitions.

Liverpool aren’t exactly struggling for form either. Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost just once in 34 outings in 2022. With the talent they boast across the pitch, you’d expect them to cause this Madrid side plenty of problems defensively. Man City proved many times that Ancelotti’s back-line can be exposed, and Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will be looking to do just that.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid Football Odds

Despite Real Madrid’s impressive recent record in this fixture, they are given just a 29% chance of winning by NetBet’s win probability counter and will be underdogs at 47/20. Liverpool are given a 45% chance of victory with odds of 21/20, whilst a draw is priced at 5/2.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid Betting Tips

Real Madrid win and both to score – 9/2

Madrid just have a knack of getting the job done in Europe. We expect them to concede chances and ride their luck as they did against City, but their timeless class in midfield and ruthless finishing in the box could be the difference.

First goalscorer: Mo Salah – 7/2

After being forced off with injury after just half hour in the 2018 final, Salah will be looking to leave his mark on the biggest stage. There isn’t a single full back that can cope with him on his day, and he’ll be raring to go after the disappointment a few years ago.

Bet Maker: Draw, both to score, Benzema and Salah anytime goalscorers – 13/1

This game promises goals. Both have lethal attacking prowess, and who better than the two golden boot winners to find the net. There’s not an awful lot separating these two sides, and although Liverpool are bookies’ favourite, we could see this going to extra time.
