Norwich to beat Cardiff City – 7/5
The Canaries are simply one of those clubs who are too good for the Championship and not good enough for the Premier League. Each of their past two seasons in the Championship, they have been crowned as title winners and with Dean Smith at the helm, they should be in the mix once again. Cardiff have strengthened their squad over the summer after a disappointing campaign last season but Norwich should prove to strong for them on the opening day. Watch out for young Brazilian, Gabriel Sara. He is tipped for big things this season at Carrow Road following a big money move from Sao Paolo.
Peterborough United to beat Cheltenham Town – 13/10
Much like Norwich, Peterborough are a perennial yo-yo club between the Championship and League One. After a poor season in the second tier last time out, they are generally much more at home in League One and should be amongst the title contenders again. They have a plethora of promising young players at their disposal and the likes of Ivan Toney cut their teeth with Posh before moving onto pastures new. Their opening day opponents, Cheltenham, have had a pre-season of change. They have a new manager after Michael Duff left for Barnsley and they could be in for a lesson on Saturday afternoon at Whaddon Road.
Tranmere to beat Stevenage – 20/21
League Two is always a tricky league to get out of. Last season’s title race went to the wire as did the race for the play-offs and Tranmere agonisingly missed out on the top seven by just two points. They look to have recruited well over the summer and are one of the favourites to get promotion to League One. Stevenage have been at this level for a number of years now without ever threatening to get out of it at the right end of the table. They have one of the lowest budgets in the division and a trip to Birkenhead is a huge assignment for any side this campaign. Back Tranmere to get off to a winning start on the Wirral!
