Premier League Title Race

We were treated to an exhilarating final day of football last season, as the title race went down to the wire once again. Manchester City’s historic comeback against Aston Villa will go down as an all-time great, securing Pep Guardiola a remarkable fourth title in five years. We are in the midst of a period of dominance not seen since the noughties, and when you add Erling Haaland into the mix, you get a quite terrifying City side. How on earth do you write off this team?

Liverpool have also signed a promising centre-forward in Darwin Nunez, but it remains to be seen how big an impact the loss of Sadio Mane will have on Jurgen Klopp’s team. Can the Uruguayan really replace Mane’s 16 Premier League goals in his first season? Only time will tell, but should he fail to hit the ground running, the Reds might find themselves a little too reliant on Mo Salah.

Chelsea look favourites to make up the top three, and we could see them push the northern clubs a little further this season. Whilst they have still failed to find a traditional number nine, Kai Havertz blossomed into the central role last season, offering a delightful balance of technical nous and killer instinct. When you factor in the abundance of talent returning from loan, the addition of prime Raheem Sterling and highly sought after Kalidou Koulibaly, they a look a strong outfit.

Battle for Champions League Football

It’s anyone’s guess as to who claims that fourth spot. Arsenal have strengthened and look to be forming an identity under Mikel Arteta, Spurs finished last season well and have made some good signings, and Man United will look to kickstart their rebuild under a new manager. When you chuck in a World Cup halfway through the season, we could see some real surprises.

That being said, Antonio Conte looks to be creating a formidable side. They have filled some holes in the summer transfer window, with Yves Bissouma looking an impressive bit of business. Richarlison still looks somewhat of a wildcard, but there’s no denying the Brazilian has talent. However, the biggest factor might be Conte himself. His no-nonsense approach got Spurs over the line and secured them a spot back in the Champions League. When you sprinkle the world class ability of Harry Kane and moments of magic delivered by Son Heung-Min, they could be right amongst it come the end of the campaign.

Premier League Relegation Scrap

There are plenty of candidates that could be occupying the bottom three come May, and the newly promoted sides will do well to retain their spot in top flight. After narrowly surviving the drop, Everton could be in real trouble again. They made over £50m with the sale of Richarlison, but don’t look like they are particularly keen on spending any of that cash. Frank Lampard has a mightily tough job on his hands.

Of the newly promoted sides, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest could be in the most trouble. The Cherries have welcomed a few arrivals – none of which have provided that much quality – and there is still a big question mark over Dominic Solanke’s ability to lead the line for a Premier League club.

For Steve Cooper’s Forest, there looks to be issues at the back. Is a Steve Cook, Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna back three enough to keep you in the division? Now we might be proven wrong, but hard work and discipline will only get you so far against Premier League quality.

There are so many variables clouding this season making it almost impossible to call. However, if City top the league, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs make up the top four, and Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Everton get relegated, we of course knew what would happen all along. If we have got every single prediction wrong, we’ll simply have to put it down to extraneous variables.
