Wolves vs Manchester City Football Preview

Manchester City squandered the opportunity to climb above Arsenal to the top of the table last time out, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa. It is the second time Pep Guardiola’s side have failed to win on the road in their first three away games, which might just be starting to become a cause for concern.

City travel to the Midlands with hopes of getting back to winning ways and ending Wolves’ three-match unbeaten streak. Bruno Lage’s side have been extremely solid at the back – something we have come to expect – but City’s 20 goals in six games makes it almost a foregone conclusion that they will have no trouble breaking down the league’s best defence.

It’s taken Erling Haaland just six games to reach a double figure goal tally, and providing he keeps fit, we might see a new goalscoring record set this season. The issue with facing this City side is that even if you manage to keep the machine quiet, you then have to find a way of nullifying the countless other attacking threats they have. Unfortunately for Wolves, we can’t see them holding out for 90 minutes.

In contrast to the dynamic City attack, it’s difficult to see where a Wolves goal will come from. No team have scored fewer than the hosts – they have netted just three times in six games and are yet to score multiple times in a match. Diego Costa is certainly an intriguing addition, but he hasn’t played since December, so it’s unlikely he will provide any instant impact to this struggling side.

Wolves will undoubtedly look to be compact, contain City and try to catch them on the break. But there is only so long you can withstand Pep’s pressure before the floodgates open. If they are on the back foot for 90 minutes, the visitors will eventually carve a way through.

Wolves vs Manchester City Football Odds

It probably comes as no surprise that City are huge 3/10 favourites on the road this weekend, whilst Wolves are massive 29/4 underdogs. Guardiola’s side have won four consecutive games against Wolves and have netted 13 in the process – an average of 3.25 goals a game. You can back City to win and over 2.5 goals at 5/6.

Wolves vs Manchester City Betting Tips

*Odds correct at the time of publication and subject to change.

Man City win to zero – 1/1

This looks a really solid chance to double your money. Wolves have lacked any real imagination in the final third this season and we can’t see them keeping a clean sheet the way City are playing.

HT / FT – Tie / Man City – 3/1

Wolves will defend for their lives in the first half – something which we have seen them do resiliently before. However, as their legs start to tired into the second half, City’s overwhelming attack will likely find a way through.

Bet Maker: Man City win, Over 2.5 goals, Haaland first goalscorer – 9/2

It was Kevin De Bruyne who helped himself to four goals at Molineux in a 5-1 win last season, but how can you bet against Haaland? He is almost inevitable at this point and will be the focal point as City look to run rampant against a struggling Wolves side.
