Tunisia vs Australia

Tunisia were particularly impressive in the first half of their 0-0 draw with Denmark, and were only denied the lead by a fabulous stop from Kasper Schmeichel. They started to run out of steam towards the back-end of the game, but managed to battle their way to what could be a crucial point. They will be favourites heading into their second fixture against Australia.

It is only the Socceroos’ sixth World Cup appearance and they have managed to get out of the group stages just once in 2006. We can’t see them repeating that feat in Qatar, despite having some a wealth of experience throughout their squad. They will likely come up just short against a solid Tunisia side.

Tunisia win – 2.20

Score prediction: 1-0

Poland vs Saudi Arabia

The win over Argentina was one of those magical World Cup moments, a once in a lifetime performance for many of those Saudi Arabia players. We’ve already witnessed their fight and physicality, but it will be very difficult to repeat that remarkable performance.

Led by talisman Robert Lewandowski, Poland will be the ones to squash the Saudi momentum. He will pose a slightly different threat than the Argentina attackers offered, and the Barcelona man only needs a glimpse of goal to find the net. The Saudi luck might just run out at the Education City Stadium.

Poland win – 1.72

Score prediction: 2-0

France vs Denmark

Champions France are among the favourites to retain their title, but there is no guarantee that they top Group D. Twice they have played Denmark in the Nations League this year and twice they have lost. The last time they played them in major competition was at the last World Cup, where they drew 0-0. The Danes have a knack of thwarting the French.

With all that being said, it’s still difficult to look beyond France. Even without Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, they probably have the most talented squad in the tournament. Kylian Mbappe has set football alight since lifting the trophy in 2018, and he returns to the international scene an even bigger superstar. It’s never an easy game against Denmark, but Les Bleus should get over the line.

France win – 2.05

Score prediction: 2-1

Argentina vs Mexico

Argentina were shocked in their opening fixture against an incredibly resilient Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately for Mexico, they’re the opposition that Argentina will look to bounce back against. They cannot afford to drop anymore points, and that should be reflected in the tempo and aggression of their performance.

Mexico will be willing competitors, but they will have a lot to do if they are to stop this star-studded Argentina attack. Lionel Messi was unusually quiet in the opening game defeat – that won’t be a trend that continues. Expect him to see plenty of the ball and for Argentina to be ruthless in attack. They did look slightly ropey at the back against Saudi Arabia, but they will outscore most nations in this tournament.

Argentina win – 1.56

Score prediction: 3-1
