Croatia vs Brazil

This should be the end of the road for Croatia. Had it been for some better Japanese finishing, they would have bailed out in the round of 16. They offered nothing going forward other than pumping balls into the box and got caught out numerous times at the back.

Thiago Silva and Marquinhos will have no problem dealing with crosses, which is seemingly Croatia’s only angle of attack. You would also expect Tite’s side to have plenty of joy at the opposite end of the pitch given what we saw from them against South Korea. Their attack is littered with world class talent, which will undoubtedly be the driving force if they are to reach the final. The gulf in ability between these nations is difficult to ignore.

Brazil to win – 1.39

Netherlands vs Argentina

Who is betting against Lionel Messi in his last dance with Argentina? Not us. It would be fitting for Messi to end his international journey holding the World Cup above his head, but a tricky Netherlands team stand in their way of a semi-final spot. This promises to be an incredibly tight affair, but Messi might just be the difference.

Louis van Gaal’s dynamic duo, Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo, will fancy their chances of getting at this Argentina back-line. However, the Netherlands have been far from impenetrable at the back and will do well to keep Argentina at bay. We’re just about giving Argentina the nod.

Argentina to win – 2.21

Morocco vs Portugal

Morocco held on for dear life to take things to penalties against Spain – that must have taken something out of them both physically and mentally. In contrast, Portugal cruised past Switzerland in a 6-1 thumping. We expect them come flying out the blocks led by the confident Goncalo Ramos, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s placement on cloud nine after his round of 16 hat-trick.

Portugal are more direct than Spain, which should serve them well. They will look to get in behind a Morocco defence that had everything in front of them in their 0-0 draw with the Spaniards. It’s likely to be another tight game, but Portugal have the momentum and quality to nick a win.

Portugal to win – 1.67

England vs France

Picking a winner for this one is tough. France are the favourites, namely as a result of the simply unbelievable talent that is Kylian Mbappe. But Gareth Southgate’s side have recent experience getting over the line in the latter stages of tournament football. A huge factor in determining the winner will be how quiet Kyle Walker can keep Mbappe. If he can nullify his influence on the game, England have what it takes to win. But very rarely has anyone been able to keep the PSG star quiet.

We think it’s more likely that both nations have chances throughout the game, and we could well be in for 120 minutes. Not many will be betting against the reigning champions, but England will be quietly confident in getting over the line. Like many, we think it’s too close to call.

Draw – 3.23
