Chelsea vs Man City Preview

There won’t be many fancying Chelsea in this one, despite their historically impressive record at Stamford Bridge. A 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day saw Graham Potter’s side fail to win for the fourth game in a row away from home. They now sit slap bang in the centre of the table, about the same number of points from the top four as they are from the bottom three.

City also dropped points in their last outing, a 1-1 tie with Everton on the final day of 2022. A trip to West London provides Pep Guardiola’s men the opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal to five points as we approach the half-way mark of the campaign.

The last three meetings between these English giants have gone the way of City, with Chelsea having failed to find the net. The last time Blues fans had something to cheer about was the Champions League final in 2021.

However, their Premier League meetings at Stamford Bridge have traditionally been even affairs. In the last six, both teams have won three each. But it’s tough to look past Chelsea’s poor form in recent months. After an initial uplift with Potter’s arrival, the Blues’ form has been trending in the wrong direction.

Premier League: Football Betting Odds

Chelsea head into the tie as 5.40 underdogs on home soil, with the visitors 1.61 favourites. They haven’t shared the points in a Premier League outing since a 1-1 draw in 2015, with the odds at 4.00 to end a seven year wait.

Rather unsurprisingly, it’s Erling Haaland (3.40) leading the odds to break the deadlock, with Chelsea’s most likely opening goalscorer Kai Havertz (11.00) or Raheem Sterling (12.00).

Chelsea vs Man City Betting Tips

NetBet Boost: Man City to win 1-0 – 7.00

City have won three straight games against Chelsea to nil, two of which have ended 1-0. Given the contrast in form and the hosts’ attacking woes, boosted odds of 7.00 would provide a fantastic return.

Man City win and under 2.5 goals – 3.41

This bet has landed in all three of their prior meetings, including an EFL Cup clash earlier this season. There haven’t been too many high-scoring affairs over the years, and Stamford Bridge remains a tough place to go.
