Six Nations Tournament Preview

After a hugely successful 2022, world number one side Ireland are favourites heading into the Six Nations, as they look to win the competition for the first time since 2018. Two wins over New Zealand, as well as victories against South Africa and Australia see the Irish enter the tournament in fine form. A lot is being made of their round two match against France, which could be an early Six Nations decider.

Reigning champions France enjoyed an undefeated year in 2022, winning the Six Nations Grand Slam, before beating the likes of Australia and South Africa towards the end of the year. Aside from a very well-rounded squad, Les Blues have two-time Six Nations Player of the Championship, Antoine Dupont. The 26-year-old scrum half was named World’s Best Player in 2021 and is tipped to captain France to glory at this year’s World Cup.

Rounding up the top three favourites are England, who will be led by Steve Borthwick after an uninspired 2022 saw Eddie Jones sacked. There isn’t much time to turn things around, with Borthwick’s first match in charge a tricky tie against home nation Scotland. The world’s number five seed do have some standout talent of their own and plenty of experience to back it up, but it remains to be seen how quickly they can adjust to the new coach’s philosophies.

Six Nations Betting Tips

France to win the Six Nations – 2.80

This competition looks a two-horse race and it could well come down to the meeting in Dublin on Saturday 11th February. Although Ireland might have had the better of this fixture historically, the tide has turned in recent years.

The last three meetings between these rugby powerhouses have been at the Six Nations – France have won all three. On every occasion, the match has been decided by a single-figure margin. It’s certainly going to be close, but Les Blues have the star power.

England to finish in the top two – 2.35

There is relatively little value in Wales, Scotland or Italy, but there might be some in England. Sure, it is fairly uncertain times under the new coach, but England have bundles of experience and are capable of beating anyone on their day. If they can win their first three matches against Scotland, Italy and Wales, they will have full belief they can challenge for the Six Nations title.
