Euro 2024: England vs Ukraine

The Three Lions got their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-1 win against Italy in Naples. Euro 2024: England vs Ukraine Preview

Ukraine are back in action for the first time since a 0-0 draw with Scotland in September, with the hopes of a nation resting on their shoulders. They have qualified for back-to-back European Championships and will fancy their chances of progressing from a very competitive group.

England have three points under their belt and will be fully expected to cruise through this encounter unscathed to establish an early lead. The victory over Gli Azzurri was far from convincing, but in typical Southgate fashion, it was defensively secure and the Three Lions got over the line.

These two nations are anything but strangers and their paths have crossed many times in competitive fixtures over the past 15 years. The most recent meeting was a memorable 4-0 win for England in the Euro 2020 quarter-final, followed a week later by heartbreak in the final.

Since that meeting, Ukraine have lost just twice in 15 matches, while England have lost four in 21. A 1-0 World Cup qualifier victory in 2009 remains Ukraine’s only win in this fixture but they have since avoided defeat in two of four clashes.

Euro 2024 Qualifier Odds

England are strong 1.25 favourites to claim three more points on home soil, with Ukraine 11.00 underdogs and a draw priced at 5.50. Both teams to score (2.25) is seen as less likely than either nation to keep a clean sheet (1.60), with over 2.5 goals (1.71) also heavily backed.

The record-breaking Harry Kane is leading the odds to open the scoring at 3.64, tailed by Ivan Toney (4.10) and Phil Foden (6.50). There won’t be too many backing a Ukraine first goal, but Club Brugge’s Roman Yaremchuk (13.00) is the most likely to provide one according to the bookies.

England vs Ukraine Betting Tips

NetBet Boost: Harry Kane to score first – 4.50

It’s highly unlikely Southgate rotates for this game, and Kane rarely starts on the bench. It’s tough to bet on anyone else to open the scoring for England. His strike rate for his country is incredibly impressive and he is now the most England’s most prolific striker on the international stage.

England win to nil – 1.87

England have kept four clean sheets in eight meetings with Ukraine and there’s a good chance they improve upon that record on Sunday. England’s quality should allow them to spend most of the 90 minutes in the Ukraine half and there won’t be too much in the visiting attack that worries them.

England to score in both halves – 1.97

The hosts should dominate from the outset and maintain that throughout. They were on the scoresheet twice in the opening 45 against Italy and will be hoping for another fast start in front of a sold-out Wembley.
