Newcastle vs Arsenal Football Preview

Defeat on the road is simply not an option for Mikel Arteta – the Gunners could find themselves four points adrift of the champions having played a game more. They are tasked with doing what only one other team has managed this season… win a game at St. James’ Park. Liverpool remain the only team to claim all three points on Tyneside.

The Magpies are ending the season with a flourish as they look to consolidate their Champions League spot. They have won eight of their previous nine matches, as well as four consecutive home games. St. James’ will be bouncing in the knowledge that a win will take them one step closer to bringing elite European football back to the north east.

Arsenal may have ended a four-match winless run last time out at home against Chelsea, but they have not fared well on the road in recent weeks. The visitors have won just once in their last five away matches, drawing three and losing one.

It was a 0-0 draw when these two met at the Emirates in the reverse fixture. Newcastle would probably take a point, whereas Arsenal need all three. Expect the Gunners to dominate proceedings on the ball but for Newcastle to cause all kinds of problems on the break. It’s gearing up to be another interesting tactical battle between Arteta and Eddie Howe.

Premier League Betting Odds

As a result of their dominance on home soil, Newcastle go into the tie as slight favourites at 2.40, with an Arsenal win at 2.64 and a draw priced at 3.63. Both teams to score is heavily backed at 1.52, and although the reverse fixture ended goalless, either side to keep a clean sheet is less favoured at 2.42.

Callum Wilson (5.10) and Alexander Isak (5.40) are both in brilliant form for the Magpies and are currently leading the odds to open the scoring. Gabriel Jesus (7.90) is favourite to break the deadlock for Arsenal, with Gabriel Martinelli (8.70) and Bukayo Saka (9.00) not far behind.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Betting Tips

NetBet Boost: Draw HT / Draw FT – 6.80

We’re expecting a tight game. Newcastle have lost just once at home this season and will likely be happy with a point. Arsenal have drawn three of their last five and look to be running out of steam down the final straight.

BetBuilder: Draw, both teams to score, over 6.5 corners, Callum Wilson to score at any time, Joelinton to be carded – 28/1

Aside from the draw, we like the look of both teams to score, as well as Wilson to find the net. Five goals in his previous three appearances mean he should get the nod over Isak. As for cards, Joelinton looks the best bet to go into the book.

He has received 12 yellow cards in 29 Premier League appearances this season and will be tasked by Eddie Howe with getting amongst the Arsenal midfield and disrupting their rhythm.
