Fiorentina vs West Ham Preview

Football’s a funny old game. West Ham have been battling relegation for a large majority of the season, but now find themselves on the brink of history in a major European final. It’s been a long wait for Hammers fans – the last time they lifted a trophy was the 1999 Intertoto Cup, and before that, the FA Cup in 1980.

Although Fiorentina have suffered a similar drought on the continent, they have found domestic success easier to come by. There were crowned Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana champions in 1995-96, before winning the Coppa Italia once again in 2001. But fans have had relatively little to cheer since.

La Viola have probably been the standout performer in the Conference League campaign. They came through a tricky draw of Braga, Sivasspor, Lech and Basel on their way to the final, and did so in style. They have been the most free-scoring team in the tournament, with Arthur Cabral (7), Luka Jovic (6), Nicolas Gonzalez (5) and Antonin Barak (5) all featuring among the top 10 scorers.

West Ham have also endured a tough run, namely an in-form Gent in the quarter-finals, before emerging victorious in the semi-final in front of a hostile AZ Alkmaar crowd. Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen have done most of the heavy lifting for David Moyes on the European stage, and you’d expect the pair to have some joy against a Fiorentina defence that has kept just three clean sheets in 16 games.

Europa Conference League Final Odds

The bookies reckon this could go either way. West Ham are currently at 2.61, with Fiorentina at 2.68 and a draw priced at 3.04. Goals are expected, with both teams to score (1.79) seen as more likely than either team to keep a clean sheet (1.95), while over 1.5 (1.35) and over 2.5 goals (2.06) are heavily backed.

Fiorentina’s top scorer in the Conference League, Arthur Cabral, is leading the odds to break the deadlock at 6.80, followed by Jovic and Gonzalez. Antonio is West Ham’s favourite to open the scoring, followed by teammates Danny Ings and Said Benrahma.

Europa Conference League Final Betting Tips

NetBet Boost: Bowen to score first – WAS 9.40, NOW 10.50

These are huge odds for West Ham’s most dangerous attacking player to open the scoring. He may not have had the most impressive individual campaign, but he is an absolute handful for full-backs on his day.

Bet Builder: Draw (90mins), over 1.5 goals, Fiorentina over 29.5 booking points, Nicolas Gonzalez to score at any time

We can see this going to extra time and maybe even all the way to penalties. Nicolas Gonzalez isn’t a certainty to start, but his recent goalscoring record speaks for itself and the Argentine is a good option even off the bench. He has scored four goals in each of his previous three appearances, including a goal off the bench last weekend.

Fiorentina don’t have the best disciplinary record. They have registered nine bookings in their last two games, and with the stakes even higher in Prague, three cards seems like a fairly good bet.
