US Open Tournament Preview

After finishing T2 at the Masters, Brooks Koepka got his hands on a first major since 2019 at the PGA Championship, edging out Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler in a two-shot victory. Koepka looks somewhere close to his best in 2023, and his incredible record at majors have left many fancying his chances in LA. In 36 major appearances, the American has made 14 top-five finishes and won on five occasions.

The bookies have his closest competition as world number one Scottie Scheffler. The 26-year-old’s remarkably consistent form has continued since his T10 at the Masters. Since the start of May, Scheffler has registered four consecutive top-five finishes, including a T2 at the PGA Championship.

Another name in the spotlight leading up to the penultimate major of the year is Rory McIlroy. After missing back-to-back cuts at the Players Championship and the Masters, his form has markedly improved. He has finished in the top 10 in three successive tournaments, and he is no stranger to the US Open. It’s been over a decade since he lifted the trophy in 2011, but his record in the past few years is exceptional, registering four straight top 10 finishes.

If you’re looking for value, Viktor Hovland could well be your best bet. The 25-year-old has continued to impress on the biggest stage, finishing T3 in the Players, T7 in the Masters and T2 in the PGA Championship. He also heads to LA in winning form having lifted the trophy at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio.

US Open Betting Tips

Viktor Hovland E/W – 16/1

The general consensus is that it’s only a matter of time before Hovland lifts a major trophy. His performances at the Masters and PGA Championship were solid and will fill the Norwegian with confidence. It could well be his time to shine, but backing the world number five each way will cover a top-eight finish should he not quite be up to scratch. This is a good fall-back option given he has finished T7, T2 and T3 in the biggest competitions this year.

Brooks Koepka top 10 finish – 5/4

Brooks Koepka has made eight US Open appearances, has finished in the top five on five occasions, finished second in 2019, and has won twice in 2017 and 2018. On top of that, victory at the PGA Championship and a T2 at the Masters mean he won’t be short of momentum heading to LA.
