Royal Ascot: Day 5 Preview

Royal Ascot

Day 5 of Ascot. One of the most prestigious events in racing rolls onto its fifth day. We’ve been keeping a close eye on the top runners for what’s promising to be another exhilarating day in Berkshire.

NetBet Sport are paying extra places on a number of races every day at Ascot, including the 14:30, 15:05, 15:40, 17:00 and 17:35 on Saturday. Head online to check out all the latest horse racing markets and odds.

14:30 – Chesham Stakes

Aidan O’Brien, need I say anymore? He’s the most successful trainer in the history of the Chesham Stakes with six wins in Saturday’s first race. Pearls And Rubies was a narrow winner at Navan and is a horse that is sure to improve on that effort, holding a Group 1 entry later in the season. The likes of stablemate Content and Richard Hannon’s La Guarida are players, but there could be some each-way value further down the list of runners, and the one that catches the eye is Richard Fahey’s Matnookh, who could be an outside shout.

15:05 – Jersey Stakes

Hot favourite Covey, trained by John Gosden, will be looking to claim more success in the 7f Group 3. This horse has been looking classy with a hat trick of wins at Newmarket, Newcastle and Haydock. However, The Antarctic is the biggest danger in the chasing pack last seen winning a Group 3 at Naas for Aiden O’Brien, and Enfjaar last year’s shock winner-looks to again cause an upset.

Covey @ 3.00

15:40 – Hardwicke Stakes

The 3:40 is lining up to be one of the most competitive races of the day; Highfield Princess is hoping to build on a good second-place finish on day one with a great finish. However Australian speedster Artorious is also hoping to build on an excellent third a year ago. But there are plenty of outsiders with the likes of Kinross, Rohaan and Sacred all looking to face a tough test, while Wellington is interesting. Artorious could just have a little too much class for a field lacking notable depth.

Artorius @ 4.75

16:20 – Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes

It’s another fascinating lineup with two horses looking favourite for the 4:20 here. Hukum will be a slight favourite, however, Free Wind beat Wednesday Royal Ascot winner Rogue Millennium in the Middleton Stakes at York. Both may just fall below top class, but are likely to fight it out for victory and are short enough in the market. This could be an each-way shout as the outsiders in the field Grand Alliance and Changingoftheguard could sneak a result in what’s looking like an open race.

Free Wind @ 3.00

17:35 – Golden Gates Stakes

Aiden O’Brien’s Canute will be an impressive favourite, having travelled really well and won the Premier Handicap at Navan previously. O’Brien will be looking for more glory in the penultimate race. However, Laafi could outrun the odds as well as Lion Of War, who catches the eye with a chance of an upset.

Canute @ 3.00

18:10 – Queen Alexandra Stakes

Winning in both 2021 and 2022, Stratum is looking to make it a sensational hat-trick of wins in the last race of the day. The Willie Mullins trained horse has set a high bar. But will this be a step too far for the ten-year-old? The Grand Visir has also placed on two occasions in this event for Ian Williams and could be capable of again being a front runner. Run For Oscar has an outside chance of also bringing home the bacon.
