Everton vs Fulham

These are two sides we expect to be hovering around midtable come the end of the campaign. Everton underachieved last season, while Fulham overachieved, so it will be an interesting battle to kick their campaigns off. The Toffees have managed to keep their squad largely intact, and Sean Dyche has done some decent business.

They look set to keep hold of key players like Jordan Pickford and Amadou Onana, while also adding the talent of Arnaut Danjuma and the experience of Ashley Young. What’s more, after missing large parts of last season, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back to full fitness, and will undoubtedly be like a new signing for Dyche.

As it stands, Marco Silva will have largely the same squad at his disposal, with the addition of Nigerian centre-half Calvin Bassey from Ajax, as well as Raul Jimenez from Wolves. The latter was likely signed in the event that Aleksandr Mitrovic departs, but the Serbian has reluctantly joined up with his teammates after failing to secure a move. We think it will be a tight game, but one in which the Goodison Park faithful could help their side over the line.

Everton to win – 2.15

Score prediction: 2-1

Bournemouth vs West Ham

Bournemouth’s new manager Andoni Iraolo has been busy in the window, splashing the cash on Hamed Traore from Sassuolo, Milos Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar, Romain Faivre from Lyon, and Justin Kluivert from Roma. All are under the age of 25 and will bolster an already strong squad consisting of standout players like Philip Billing, Marcus Tavernier, and Dominic Solanke. The Cherries could be a surprise package this season.

The story of West Ham’s window is the complete opposite. They parted ways with Declan Rice for £105m, as well as Gianluca Scamacca and Manuel Lanzini, but alleged tension between David Moyes and the owners has resulted in the Hammers starting the season with a thin squad. There is enough quality throughout that we think they can nick a result on the south coast, but relegation could be looming without reinforcements.

Draw – 3.26

Score prediction: 1-1

Brighton vs Luton

It’s not the ideal start to the campaign for the newly-promoted Luton. Their lack of financial power will mean they get things underway with a squad that can only be described as Championship-standard. Tahith Chong and Ryan Giles are their standout signings which, let’s be honest, Luton fans will be a little underwhelmed by. Survival is the name of the game for the Hatters.

Brighton’s recruitment wheel kept turning this summer, selling players on for profit and replacing them with shrewd acquisitions. Alexis Mac Allister may be a big loss for the Seagulls, but we have no doubt Roberto De Zerbi has a plan in place to counteract the loss of the Argentine. Brighton have also signed a number of players, most notably Joao Pedro, who heads to the Amex on the back of a 15 goal and assist season for Watford. Sky’s the limit for the Seagulls.

Brighton to win – 1.30

Score prediction: 3-0

Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace

Both of these sides have parted ways with their best players. Iliman Ndiaye has swapped Sheffield for Marseille, while Wilfried Zaha opted for Galatasaray rather than extending his contract at Selhurst Park. Unfortunately, these are two teams we envisage scrapping down at the bottom come 2024. The Blades have not done enough to fill their squad with Premier League talent, while Palace could still lose players like Michael Olise and Marc Guehi.

It will be a cagey affair at Bramall Lane, with both probably happy to accept a point and move on to the next one.

Draw – 3.07

Score prediction: 1-1
