Euro 2024: Netherlands vs France Preview

The pick of this week’s internationals has to be this delicious showdown between two European titans. France currently sit top of Group B and are well on course for a perfect qualification campaign. Having not lost a game yet, they head to the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam to take on the Netherlands.

The Dutch have lost one of their qualifying matches and sit second in the group. However, they’ll have the added advantage of being in front of their home fans this Friday. Either way, with so many top players on show here; you know it’s going to be a cracker!

Netherlands vs France Preview

You wouldn’t want to run into this French team right now. It’s kind of a dark alleyway, big terrifying shadow vibe. Kylian Mbappe leaping out from under his trenchcoat, taking all three points and leaving you a broken twisted mess. They’ve won all five of their matches so far, scoring 11 goals and conceding…none.

Although sometimes you shouldn’t read too much into qualification as the big boys beat up the minnows around them, they have been impressive so far. Sometimes you have to beat what’s in front of you.

A win on Friday would seal Frances’s spot at Germany in 2024 and they would be the first side to do so. The depth in the French squad is impressive. Young players like Eduardo Camavinga, William Saliba, Boubacar Kamara, and of course, the golden boy Kylian Mbappe are starting to make claims. Taking over from the World Cup and Euros winners before; French football has begun its latest regeneration and bid to be the dominant force.

They are undoubtedly the team to beat. A sign of the changing times is personified in Kylian Mbappe being awarded the captain’s armband. A passing of the torch as Hugo Lloris hung up his gloves and the next generation took charge. The terrifying, young, fast, and quite frankly quality generation now runs this squad. As I said at the start, you wouldn’t want to get in their way.

For the Dutch, it’s been a little bit more of a difficult transitional phase. Like a pair of new shoes, it’s pinching a little bit more than expected for this side. Players like Memphis Depay, Virgil van Dijk, and other veterans from previous World Cups and Euros have done well. But with Louis van Gaal leaving after the Oranje reached the World Cup quarter-finals in Qatar, it’s been a very mixed bag.

Ronald Koeman failed during the Nations League. There are no two ways about it, the Dutch failed to register a podium finish. Losses to Croatia and Italy made it four defeats from five for Koeman’s beleaguered troops, and they were also beaten 4-0 and humbled by this French side in the first match of qualifying in March. The system didn’t seem to be working and they could neither score goals nor keep them out. Not an ideal formula. But since then, the Netherlands have only lost that one game in this phase so will still be confident of qualifying in second.

As we head into this one Koeman will be missing some key players from the side to face another round against France. Sven Botman, Frenkie de Jong, Cody Gakpo, and Matthijs de Ligt all picked up injuries prior to this international break. France on the other hand will be boosted by the return of Mbappe and will have their tails up, a feel-good factor, and no real qualification pressure. Could this understrength Dutch side do a job against France?

Latest Euro 2024 Qualifying Odds

With France coming into this one in some serious form, it’s no surprise they are tipped to take the points. They are 2.17 to take this one away from home and return to Franc with all three points. The Netherlands are just behind to win in front of their home fans at 2.19 and push the French along in this qualification process. The draw is placed at 3.18, a result I’d imagine both teams would be happy with should you offer it to them now.

Both sides have potent attacks so there could well be goals in this one. Over 3 goals in the match is currently priced at 2.52 and under 3 goals at 1.46. In terms of the scorers, it’s all about Kylian Mbappe in this one, who is at 5.00 to break the deadlock.

Netherlands vs France Betting Tips

Bet Builder: France to win, both teams to score and Olivier Giroud to score anytime @ 6.25

France are imperious at the moment and would probably beat most teams in front of them. Both sides have huge attacking quality and Giroud, France’s all-time top goalscorer, is a talisman and brilliant player every time he pulls on the blue shirt.

Kylian Mbappe to score first @ 5.00

Never, ever bet against this guy when he has a France shirt on. After a little period out with an injury he’s back and hoping to fire up his side too. Whenever they need him most, he turns up, so it’s likely he gets the opening goal in this one. It’s a safe bet; if anyone’s going to score for France, it’s probably him.

France to win, BTTS, over 8.5 corners @ 4.20

Could this French side secure perfect qualification? There’s every chance with their incredible squad depth and array of world-class players that they could.
