Should Harry Kane have stayed at Spurs?

Should Harry Kane have left England?

When Harry Kane moved to Bayern Munich, there was one thing on his mind: trophies. As we enter into a pivotal period of the season, Bayern find themselves five points back from Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and 1-0 down going into the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Things are not going to plan. While individually he continues to excel, the team around him is struggling. Is anyone getting Dave-ja-vu? It makes you wonder.

Should Harry Kane have stayed at Spurs?

Kane once again finds himself doing a lot of the heavy lifting in the hunt for his trophy. With 28 goals and 8 assists in his 29 appearances, the England captain has hit the ground running. He’s hit the ground sprinting at full tilt. A phenomenal footballer.

He could well beat the Bundesliga single-season goal record, another personal accolade to add to his extensive repertoire.

But Thomas Tuchel is under pressure in a week in which they were battered 3-0 by Leverkusen and lost to Lazio.

Is Harry Kane the subject of a curse? Did he spend his childhood walking under ladders and breaking mirrors? Or is there just something in the striker’s DNA that repels trophies? It is getting suspicious.

Bayern Munich: The Silverware Guarantee

Things didn’t start well for Bayern, having been stunned by third-tier side Saarbrucken in the DFB-Pokal second round.

On Kane’s debut, Tuchel’s side also lost the German Super Cup to RB Leipzig, raising the prospect of another season without a trophy for the England captain. Before he could start scoring goals, he was one trophy down.

One thing Kane didn’t bank on, was Xabi Alonso. The Leverkusen manager has worked nothing short of a miracle with his side and they look like one of the in-form sides on the planet.

High pressing, great football flow, passing, moving, and dynamic attacking with a compact and organised defence. While Bayern are floundering, Alonso’s side look like winning every game possible.

The last couple of weeks have been among the worst in 10 years for Munich. Leverkusen dealt a significant blow in the Bundesliga title race with an emphatic and commanding victory. This impressive win not only secured three crucial points for Leverkusen but also propelled them five points clear at the top of the table.

Bayern – who have won 27 trophies since Kane’s first professional appearance – look like they won’t be adding any more this season. The only trophy that may be coming his way could be another individual award for topping the Bundesliga scoring charts, a prize that intriguingly resembles the cannon on Arsenal’s badge. You just can’t make it up.

The Big Ange Effect

Back to North London. The news of their all-time top goalscorer leaving crushed fans. And who’s coming in? Some Australian bloke who’d been applying his trade in Scotland. It was hardly a marquee summer.

But fast-forward 8 months and the sun is shining over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Heung-Min Son has admirably stepped up to fill the Kane-sized shoes left behind, showcasing his prowess on the pitch. Richarlison, despite a slow start, has found his rhythm and is now netting a goal per game, proving his worth in the team.

Under the guidance of Ange, Spurs seem rejuvenated. Currently sitting comfortably in fourth place, they trail the league leaders by just seven points.

This resurgence has injected new hope and excitement among Spurs fans as they aim to climb higher in the table and challenge for top honours.

The new White Hart Lane is pumping. Let’s be honest, this all must be quite hard for Harry. The thing is, he’d have scored truckloads under Ange too.

What Now?

You have to feel for him. A brilliant individual can’t find the right club at the right time. It may be another few seasons before we see him lift a trophy, or he could well drag Bayern to the summit this year. Only time will tell.

While he seems to be enjoying life off the field in Munich, there is probably a little bit of him wondering if he made the right decision.

As we head into a summer that includes the European Championships, England fans will hope that’s how he breaks the duck.
