What Are the Different Types of Roulette Bets?

Here at NetBet Casino, we have news, game recommendations, and all kinds of casino game guides suitable for all of our readers. Roulette is undoubtedly one of the most popular games on our platform. It’s an easy game of chance to play, although a bit of knowledge – especially in terms of bets – is required before spinning the wheel. If you want to learn more, check out this roulette bets NetBet guide before you start playing.

The Different Types of Roulette Bets

The regular roulette wheel has 37 pockets numbered 0-36. The numbers alternate between red and black, while the green zero represents the casino’s house edge. Besides the numbers, you’ll see a full table layout usually on the right side of the wheel with many other bets. These are mostly 50/50 bets with better chances than betting on single numbers. While they’re straightforward, you still need to learn a thing or two about them before you spin the wheel.

Inside Bets

The inside bets are on the inner side of the roulette table’s layout. These are the riskier bets which pay more. They include the famous Straight Up, which is betting on a single number. This particular bet has a return of 35/1. Your chances of hitting this number are very low, but that’s the beauty of the roulette wheel.

Other inside bets include:

  • Split: betting on two adjacent numbers
  • Street: also known as rows, it covers three numbers in a row on the table
  • Corner: a bet on a corner where four numbers meet
  • Six line: an inside bet on six consecutive numbers

Outside Bets

Compared to inside bets, outside bets are more likely and usually have a 50/50 outcome. They include the famous red/black and odd/even, where you predict if the ball rolls into a red, black, even number, or odd-numbered pocket.

It’s fair to say that due to their 50/50 outcome, outside bets such as red or black are perfect for beginners. If you don’t know where to start and a Straight Up doesn’t look attractive, odd/even or red/black is perfectly fine.

You can also bet on a high or low number. Numbers 1-18 fall in the low category, while 19-36 are considered high. The chances are the same as on red or black – split down the middle at 50/50.

Since the roulette table is split into three columns with 12 numbers, you can bet on a full column. The chances are a bit lower than 50/50 bets, but the payout is higher at 2/1 (compared to 1/1). Columns are especially popular among roulette players due to the higher odds.

You can also bet on dozens as part of the outside bet category. This bet covers three dozens of numbers, divided into 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36. Just like columns, dozens pay 2:1.
