Can Klopp win the quadruple on his final season at Liverpool?

Finally: Some Depth

For years Liverpool were plighted by injuries and struggled with their squad depth. Keeping up with Manchester City and their wealth of back-up options all over the pitch was a problem.

If you look back at the seasons gone by, injuries have often sunk their hopes.

From Virgil van Dijk’s injury that dented their 2020/21 season to the long list of midfielders that seem to break down regularly, Klopp always seems to be fighting with the physios.

This season, they seem to have added depth. New signings like Alexis MacAllister are of course great, but much of the have come through the academy.

From Curtis Jones taking Dominik Szoboszlai’s spot while he’s been away to the impressive rise of Conor Bradley, who has stepped in while Trent has been absent.

The squad seems to be deeper than usual. With fewer points dropped and less pressure on Liverpool’s starting 11, this could help them as we get deeper and deeper into the season.

The Pressure’s Off

For now, it certainly seems like they are outsiders. But Liverpool won’t mind this at all.

While everyone seems to be paying far more attention to the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal, Liverpool are just going about their business.

We saw it last year with the Gunners; that added pressure and emotion from fans isn’t always helpful.

Klopp’s side seem to be in a good rhythm of winning games and not letting emotions get the better of them.

Liverpool have also been in this situation before, right at the top come the last few games. Most of their players know the feelings, sights and sounds of crunch time.

Unlike some of the sides around them, they have experiences of both heartbreak and ecstasy. If they can just keep the pressure down for the time being, they will be in a good place come the final straight this season.

The Klopp Effect

It’s hard to gauge just how much Jurgen Klopp has done for Liverpool. He joined the Reds in one of the most barren periods in the club’s history.

However, during his time with Liverpool, he’s won it all. A Champions League, FA Cups, League Cups, and of course, the long-awaited Premier League title.

If it hadn’t been for the miraculous City side throughout the same period, they would have won a lot more.

However, Klopp’s impact reaches far further than on the pitch. From bringing through home-grown players to his connection with the fans, he’s a manager who seems to understand the core values of this esteemed and historic club.

Could the gratitude they have for him be the final motivation they need to go on and achieve something special this season?

The European Affair

Unfortunately, Liverpool missed out on Champions League football last season. It’s a trophy they have a very special relationship with.

Over the past few seasons, they have come to expect, not only participation, but somewhere near glory. More times than not, they’ve gone deep into the tournament.

But this season, there is no Champions League football at Anfield and they have had to settle for the Europa League.

But this could be a blessing. As we know, it takes something spectacular to pull off victories at home and on the continent.

The Manchester sides are the only clubs to win both of the biggest domestic trophies and the Champions League.

While Liverpool have had past success winning in Europe, they would probably savour another Premier League in front of a packed Anfield just that bit more.

Without the intense and gruelling Champions League run towards the back end of the season, they could well see it as a positive that allows them to push on in the league.
