UFC 299 Main Event: Sean O’Malley vs Chito Vera Preview
A lot has changed since these two met at UFC 252 in 2020.
In the four years since Sugar Sean’s only career defeat, he has climbed the ranks, beating the likes of Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling en route to the title.
Chito has also enjoyed success against the likes of Rob Font, Dominick Cruz, and Pedro Munhoz.
However, he has also tasted defeat twice against Jose Also and Cory Sandhagen, leaving him in fifth in the bantamweight rankings.
With all due respect to the Ecuadorian, if it wasn’t for his fiery history with O’Malley, he likely wouldn’t be getting a title shot.
That’s not to say he has no chance of getting his hand raised. Quite the opposite.
His emphatic head kick KO of Cruz was followed up by a close split-decision loss against an elite opponent in Sandhagen.
Chito then prevailed over the well-rounded Pedro Munhoz on the same night O’Malley was crowned champ.
Their two journeys are almost intertwined at this stage, with all roads leading to Saturday night’s showdown.
