Liverpool vs Manchester City Preview

Despite a lengthy list of sidelined players, Liverpool have enjoyed a scintillating start to the year. In 15 games across all competitions, Klopp’s side have won 12, lost just once, and lifted the EFL Cup along the way.

Anfield has proven a fortress yet again. In 21 home games, the Reds have won a remarkable 19 and are yet to taste defeat. They have also scored 66 goals during those games at an average of 3.14 goals per game.

Merseyside has been far from a happy hunting ground for the visitors. City have won just once in their previous 20 trips to Anfield, losing 13 and drawing six.

However, Pep’s side typically turn a corner come crunch time. Surprise, surprise, the Citizens look like an unstoppable force and make the trip west off the back of nine consecutive away victories.

A win in their rivals’ backyard would be historic. Not only would it put them in pole position to lift a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title, it would also be only the seventh time a top-flight team has won 10 or more games on the road.

And while City’s record at Anfield doesn’t make for great reading for travelling supporters, they have enjoyed plenty of recent success in this fixture.

They have lost just one of their previous eight Premier League outings against Klopp’s side, winning three and drawing four. After dominating the reverse fixture and only missing out on three points due to a barrage of missed chances, the Sky Blues will be brimming with confidence as they look to seize the initiative in this title race.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Football Betting Odds

In spite of their strong home record in this fixture, Liverpool go into the tie as 2.98 underdogs. City are currently 2.23 favourites following an impressive away run, with the draw priced at 3.76.

With both attacks likely to be back to full strength, goals are expected. Both teams to score is at 1.43, with over 2.5 goals (1.47) and over 3.5 goals (2.15) also likely to attract plenty of attention.

The league’s top scorer Erling Haaland is leading the odds to break the deadlock at 4.70. He is closely tailed by Mo Salah, who after returning from injury for Thursday night’s Europa League tie, is priced at 5.90 to open the scoring.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Man City win and both teams to score – 3.36

While Salah might be finding his way back to full fitness, Liverpool still have injuries to crucial players. Alisson is a big miss between the posts, while the absence of Thiago, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, and Stefan Bajcetic will leave them light in midfield.

When you compare the midfield trio of Liverpool to City’s Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne combo, it’s a little one-sided. So often these big games are won in the middle of the park.

Bet Builder: Both teams to score, over 2.5 goals, Haaland & Darwin Nunez to score anytime – 5.00

It’s difficult to see this game going 90 minutes with either side failing to find the net. Haaland is back to his metronomic best, netting a casual seven goals in his previous three games. With Salah likely to feature but potentially not match fit, Liverpool’s goalscoring onus could fall to Nunez.

The Uruguayan has scored three in two since returning from injury and will look to capitalise on a City defence that does give you chances.
