The Old Enemy

After a humiliating midweek loss to Crystal Palace, Manchester United are eager to put this season behind them. It appears that the wheels have completely fallen off for Ten Haag’s men, with the 4-0 defeat by 14th-placed Palace adding insult to injury. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s fortunes have taken a dramatic turn for the better. Once the subject of ridicule, Mikel Arteta’s side is now riding high on a seven-game winning streak, defeating strong opponents like Brighton, Chelsea, Wolves, and their arch-rivals Spurs.

But, it’s Old Trafford. The scars and memories run deep for both sides. Sometimes United have the ability to pull a result from nowhere at The Theatre of Dreams; something Ray has experienced himself.

“It’s always intense when you play against Man United. The rivalry is massive, and form goes out the window when you face Manchester United. Even though United came into this game on the back of a big defeat you can never underestimate them at Old Trafford.” Ray told us.
“It’s a must win for Arsenal so there is some pressure for us, but we are playing so well, we just need to play the same way, with the same energy and Arsenal can win this one. Even though Sir Alex and Arsene are no longer coaching, there is always a strong rivalry when Arsenal face Man Utd.”

How to play.

Although fortunes are obviously very different for the two sides, the rivalry remains. It will be interesting to see how Mikel Arteta plays this. Whether he’ll stick to his winning formula of the last few months, or take a risk and switch things up for this crucial away match.

“I think this was a one off for Mikel in preparing the team. Arsenal are playing so well right now, they just need to keep playing the same way and they can go to Old Trafford and win. The atmosphere at Old Trafford is one Arsenal don’t need to fear, they can go and play their own style of play and they can do very well. Defensively Arsenal are having a great season so they can continue to be strong in their approach and then be on the front foot offensively.” Ray explained.

After overthinking things slightly against Villa, Arteta might stick to his guns here, and employ the setup that’s worked so well for him. But one thing is for certain. With Manchester City rampant; it’s a must win for the Gunners. We can’t wait for this one!
