Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa: Champions League Preview

Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa Preview

Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa meet in a mouth-watering Champions League quarter-final tie.

After winning the Ligue 1 title with 10 matches to spare by beating Angers 1-0 on the weekend, PSG will now be eyeing a first-ever Champions League title.

Do not rule out underdogs Villa, though, especially with a manager of Unai Emery’s experience in the dugout. Lest we forget, the Spaniard also coached PSG between 2016 and 2018!

Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa Preview

Get ready for a meeting between two of Europe’s form sides.

PSG are yet to lose in Ligue this season and famously beat Liverpool at Anfield to reach the quarter-finals.

As for Villa, they are on a seven-game winning run, a streak including both legs of the sublime 6-1 aggregate victory over Club Brugge in the last 16.

So Emery will be quietly confident of achieving a positive result against his former employers, especially with new weapons at his disposal.

Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio – the latter ironically on loan from PSG – have dazzled since arriving in January, while fellow winter signing Donyell Malen scored in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

But PSG’s attack is rather terrifying. Ousmane Dembele has 32 goals across all competitions, while Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are all forwards capable of tearing a defence to shreds.

And in midfield, Luis Enrique’s hosts are a superior entity thanks to the world-class trio of Vitinha, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz.

Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans really have their work cut out in Paris to get any semblance of control.

However, Marquinhos’ suspension for the first leg is a huge positive for Emery and his players, as the PSG skipper is so crucial to the team as both a defender and contributor to build-up play.

Can Rashford, Asensio, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins take advantage of a slightly makeshift defence?

Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa Odds

Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa Betting Tips

Desire Doue to score anytime @ 3.25

While Dembele will be the focus of many goalscorer tips, we are looking at the value provided by Doue. The 19-year-old has scored in each of PSG’s last three matches and should get the nod to start over Barcola.

Paris Saint-Germain to have over 7.5 corners @ 2.60

We expect PSG to dominate the ball and create chances aplenty, keeping Emiliano Martinez (who is not viewed fondly by Parisians) very busy. In the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at the Parc des Princes, Enrique’s side were awarded 14 corners after taking 27 shots on goal.

Paris Saint-Germain to score over 2.5 goals @ 2.17

The only thing that stopped PSG from beating Liverpool on home soil by at least three goals was a world-class display by Alisson Becker. While Martinez is capable of performing similar heroics, we are backing PSG to do what they have in four of their last six matches – score over 2.5 goals!
