Real Madrid vs Arsenal Preview

Real Madrid have pulled off some Champions League miracles in the past, but this is a tall order even by their standards.

Arsenal played the holders off the park in North London last week and if anything, the scoreline flattered the visitors.

Rice’s set-piece brace and Mikel Merino’s sublime first-time finish have put the Gunners in a perfect position ahead of a visit to the iconic Bernabeu stadium.

While Arsenal’s preparation for this match, a 1-1 draw with Brentford, was perhaps not ideal, they will take comfort from the fact that Los Blancos’ recent home record is quite poor.

A 3-2 victory over Leganes was followed by a 4-4 draw with Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey, which was enough for them to reach the final.

And their previous outing at the Bernabeu was a shock 2-1 loss to Valencia.

So Arsenal should not be too scared of their opposition and if they play anywhere close to the level displayed at the Emirates, a place in the semi-finals beckons.

Kylian Mbappe will perhaps have additional motivation for this fixture, though. He was shown a straight red card for a reckless tackle in his side’s 1-0 win at Alaves on the weekend and now has a point to prove to the fans.

Real will welcome back key midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni from suspension for this fixture, although Eduardo Camavinga misses out after his red card at the Emirates.

Thomas Partey is the only real fitness doubt for the Gunners, aside from their long-term absentees.

Arsenal’s only previous visit to the Bernabeu in 2006 saw them claim a famous 1-0 win, a night where Arsene Wenger fielded a back four of Emmanuel Eboue, Kolo Toure, Philippe Senderos and Mathieu Flamini.

Real Madrid vs Arsenal Betting Tips

Real Madrid to be winning at half-time, draw at full-time @ 11.00

The first half hour will be the most difficult for Arsenal and a Real goal looks a distinct possibility, despite the fact they are yet to score against the Premier League side in three attempts. But Arteta’s side rarely wilts in the face of adversity and after riding the early storm, we can see them putting the ball past Thibaut Courtois and ending any hopes of a ‘remontada’.

Bukayo Saka to score anytime @ 3.95

And if Arsenal score, Saka could be the man responsible. A Hale End graduate emulating Thierry Henry’s solo effort at the Bernabeu in 2006? Written in the stars some would say.

Over 0.5 yellow cards in the first 10 minutes of play @ 5.85

You will be able to cut the tension with a knife in those first 10 minutes at the Bernabeu. Deafening noise and pressure is a deadly combo, one which could see a player pick up an early booking.
