PGA Championship 2025 Preview

PGA Championship 2025 Preview

The second golf major of the year is just around the corner after the thrills and spills of The Masters.

Later this week, the best golfers on the planet will do battle across multiple days in an attempt to get their hands on the prestigious PGA Championship trophy.

American star Xander Schaufelle is the defending champion following his maiden success in 2024 and he is among the leading contenders for glory this time around, although he is yet to really fully recover from a rib injury sustained earlier in the year.

The Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, will play host for this year’s event and the par 71 course was last used back in 2017, an edition which was won by Justin Rose.

Below, you will find a full PGA Championship 2025 preview from NetBet Sport, complete with the latest outright golf betting odds from our exclusive online golf section.

And we have a superb PGA Offer for all customers looking to place a pre-tournament bet. Place a £5 Single or £5 Each Way bet on the outright winner of the PGA Championship and receive a £1 Free Bet whenever your chosen player hits a shot under par in the first round.

PGA Championship 2025 Preview

The golfing action gets underway on Thursday at 1pm UK time, with the entirety of the tournament available to watch on Sky Sports.

Rory McIlroy will, of course, be the talk of the town heading into the showpiece event after his historic victory at The Masters last month.

The Northern Irishman is now a member of golf’s exclusive Grand Slam club, having won this tournament twice back in 2012 and 2014.

And one man who could etch his name into the sport’s folklore this week is Jordan Spieth, with only the PGA Championship missing from his collection of major victories.

While Spieth is not really fancied in the pre-tournament outright odds market, far stranger things have happened in the sport of golf.

World No1 Scottie Scheffeler is unsurprisingly a man to watch out for, although he is yet to win a major outside of The Masters – an event in which he claimed top spot in both 2022 and 2024.

It is something Scheffeler will be eager to remedy as soon as possible, although at the age of 28 he still has plenty of time left in his career to claim a Grand Slam of his own.

Furthermore, Scheffeler is in great form heading into the PGA Championship having claimed a dominant win in Dallas last week and backing him to win any major – particularly in the form of an each-way bet – always feels like a smart move these days.

Alongside McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Ludvig Aberg are the cream of the European contenders, with Bryson Dechambeau, Justin Thomas and Colin Morikawa joining Schauffele and Scheffeler in forging a typically strong American contingent.

This tournament has been won 88 times by American players, with Jason Day’s victory in 2015 the last achieved by a non-American.

Will the dominance from those across the pond continue? We will soon find out!
