Arsenal vs Newcastle Preview

Arsenal showed great fighting spirit to come from 2-0 down and draw 2-2 at Liverpool last weekend, a match which came just a few days after their Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, there is still no hiding from the fact that the Gunners’ recent domestic form has been poor at best. In fact, they are now three without a win in the top flight and in danger of being dragged right into the thick of the battle for Champions League football.

And Arsenal have really struggled against Newcastle of late. After losing 1-0 at St James’ Park in the league, Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten 4-0 on aggregate by the Magpies in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Eddie Howe’s men won 2-0 at the Emirates in the first leg of that tie and will arrive at the stadium on Sunday fresh from beating Chelsea by the same scoreline.

Newcastle have won four of the last six in the Premier League, though injuries are beginning to become a bit of a problem.

Sven Botman and Kieran Trippier could miss the remainder of the campaign, while Joelinton and Joe Willock remain condemned to the treatment table.

In contrast, Arsenal have been boosted by the return of Kai Havertz to first-team training, with Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard also in line to at least make the squad after featuring in Wednesday’s open session.

Jurrien Timber did not take part, though, and his absence would certainly please Anthony Gordon, who scored at the Emirates earlier this year.

Arsenal vs Newcastle Betting Tips

Player to score or assist – Gabriel Martinelli @ 2.10

Martinelli impressed as a centre forward against Liverpool and scored Arsenal’s first goal. Against an injury-ravaged Newcastle defence, the Brazilian can light up the Emirates.

Alexander Isak to have over 1.5 shots on target @ 4.00

Arsenal transfer target Isak scored at the Emirates in January and also netted the only goal when the two sides met at St James’ Park in November. The Swede enjoys playing against the Gunners and has recorded the fourth-highest number of shots on target in the division (44), so this selection looks great value!

David Raya to make over 2.5 saves for Arsenal @ 2.25

Isak, Gordon, Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes are attackers who can keep any goalkeeper in the world busy. Furthermore, Newcastle have registered at least three shots on target in their last three matches against Arsenal, so it is not silly to think that Raya will be kept fairly busy.
