The 2024-25 Premier League season is officially over, with Liverpool crowned champions.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle secured Champions League qualification, with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest occupying the other European spots.
And Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton were all sent back to the Championship after just one campaign back in the top flight.
So, now all is said and done, it feels only right to show you NetBet’s Premier League Team of the Season, with a few surprise picks.
Next season, we will be providing yet more of the best football betting odds, as well as online betting tips which can be used in conjunction with our Acca Boost feature.
Formation: 4-3-3
Goalkeeper: David Raya (Arsenal)
Raya and Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels shared the Golden Glove Award with 13 clean sheets apiece, so picking one or the other was tough. But we have sided with the Arsenal man, as his commanding displays and outstanding footwork put him among the frontrunners to be named the Gunners’ Player of the Season.
Right-back: Jurrien Timber (Arsenal)
Timber’s performances at right-back were made even more extraordinary by the fact he only returned from an ACL injury at the start of the campaign. And with Ben White spending much of the 2024-25 campaign injured, the Dutchman’s workload was increased, yet he still turned in quality displays each week.
Centre-back: Nikola Milenkovic (Nottingham Forest)
A giant at the back for Forest, Milenkovic’s signing from Fiorentina represents one of the smartest pieces of business conducted by a Premier League club in recent memory. The Serbian colossus just loves defending and in the final third, he is also pretty handy. Milenkovic finished the campaign with five goals, making him Forest’s joint-fourth top scorer.
Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
Liverpool’s Captain Fantastic just seems to get better and better. Van Dijk’s flawless displays throughout much of the season were key to the Reds’ title win and his contract extension was rightly celebrated like another trophy. No player played more passes than Van Dijk in the 2024-25 term, the Dutchman finishing with 2,923 – nearly 400 more than Levi Colwill in second.
Centre-back: Antonee Robinson (Fulham)
While Fulham eventually had to make do with an 11th-place finish, Robinson’s campaign deserves special praise. The marauding American left-back tallied 10 assists in the Premier League, more than any other defender. A bundle of energy who can lock up a high-quality winger and whip in crosses for fun, top clubs may be looking at Robinson this summer.
Centre midfield: Declan Rice (Arsenal)
Arsenal may have fallen below expectations, but Rice enjoyed yet another stunning season, in which he thrived in a more attack-minded No8 role. The all-action midfielder scored brilliant goals against Manchester United and Newcastle, as well as tallying seven assists. New England boss Thomas Tuchel would be wise to deploy Rice in a similar role at next year’s World Cup.
Centre midfield: Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)
After a tough(ish) debut season in a Chelsea shirt following a record-breaking move from Brighton, Caicedo has firmly established himself as one of the world’s best all-round midfielders. A tackling machine who seems to cover every blade of grass, the Ecuador international is also key to the Blues’ build-up play with both powerful dribbling and pinpoint passing. He should thrive on the Champions League stage next season.
Centre midfield: Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool)
Another former Brighton midfielder who is now among the best footballers on the planet. Mac Allister finished the season with five goals and five assists for Liverpool, but there is another stat which highlights his brilliance. The Argentine averaged 2.34 points-per-game in 2024-25, more than any other player. Well played, Alexis.
Right wing: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
The easiest choice – and by a considerable distance. The evergreen Salah ended the campaign with the most goals (29) and most assists (18) in the Premier League, numbers that mere mortals can only dream of. A new deal for the Egyptian King means Liverpool are well set to continue their success under Arne Slot.
Striker: Yoane Wissa (Brentford)
Perhaps the most controversial pick of the bunch, with Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland both scoring more goals than Wissa in terms of out-and-out centre forwards. However, the Brentford ace’s 19 strikes were achieved without the help of penalties. In fact, only Salah (20) scored more non-penalty goals than Wissa, with the Bees front man also notching four assists.
Left wing: Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)
Like his partner-in-crime Wissa, Mbeumo delivered a world-class season for Thomas Frank and Brentford, hence why he appears set for a big-money move this summer. The Cameroon international scored 20 goals and assisted a further seven, more contributions than any other player bar Salah (48) and Isak (29).
