NetBet’s 2024-25 Champions League Team of the Season

The Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan takes place this weekend, so NetBet has decided to put together a Team of the Season for 2024-25.

Check it out…

Formation: 4-2-2-2

Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain)

PSG’s goalkeeper has been a colossus between the posts, particularly in the knockout rounds. The Italian’s finest performance came across the two legs vs Arsenal, where he produced several world-class saves to help book his side’s spot in this weekend’s final.

Right-back: Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan)

Achraf Hakimi was a close second for the right-back spot, but we just had to give it to Dumfries after his semi-final display against Barcelona. The marauding Dutch right-back scored two goals and tallied three assists during the two high-scoring legs of football, a real showing for the ages!

Centre-back: Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)

We could not leave out PSG’s captain, could we? Marquinhos is already a legend at the Ligue 1 club and his commanding performances in this year’s Champions League have only further endeared him to the passionate supporters.

Centre-back: Alessandro Bastoni (Inter Milan)

Picking just one Inter centre-back was not easy, but Bastoni gets the nod and the Italian is in the conversation to be labelled the best defender in the world. If the Nerrazzuri are to stop PSG’s star-studded attack on Saturday, another masterclass from Bastoni may be required. He was named MOTM in Inter’s crucial 2-1 victory at Bayern Munich in the quarters.

Left-back: Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain)

Mendes has grown into a formidable attack-minded left-back, registering four goals in this competition – scoring one in each quarter-final leg vs Aston Villa. And his performance against Mohamed Salah in the last 16 was exceptional, with Liverpool’s main man barely getting a sniff in the tie.

Centre midfield: Declan Rice (Arsenal)

Without question Arsenal’s most consistent player in the Champions League and Rice’s showing over two legs against Real Madrid was more than enough to earn him this spot. The two world-class free-kicks at the Emirates will never be forgotten, while his display at a hostile Bernabeu was yet more proof that he is among the finest footballers on the planet.

Centre midfield: Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain)

All-action midfielder Vitinha is part of the reason why Luis Enrique’s project in Paris has exploded into life. A workaholic with defensive qualities, composure and an outstanding range of passing, the Portuguese star is a unique profile which every team in the world would love to have. Vitinha has collected three MOTM awards in this season’s Champions League.

Right-wing: Lamine Yamal (Barcelona)

While Yamal’s numbers of five goals and three assists are modest in comparison to some other players, the teenage sensation really did light up the competition. The Spaniard’s 109 dribbles are 27 more than anyone else and there is not a more exciting footballer to watch right now.

Left-wing: Raphinha (Barcelona)

It really was a Champions League campaign to remember from Raphinha, who registered 13 goals and eight assists in just 14 matches. The Brazilian equalled the goal contributions in a single season record set by Cristiano Ronaldo (21), something that even Lionel Messi could not achieve in a Barca shirt.

Striker: Ousmane Dembele (Paris Saint-Germain)

Dembele’s evolution into a false nine has helped turn PSG into the carnivorous animal we see today. The ambidextrous forward has tortured defenders in this competition for fun, scoring eight goals in total – including the vital early opener against Arsenal at the Emirates. If he wins the Champions League on Saturday, Dembele will surely be the favourite for the Ballon d’Or.

Striker: Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund)

Leaving out Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane was not easy, but Guirassy is the joint-top scorer, so he just had to be included. The Dortmund striker netted 13 goals in 14 matches, including a hat-trick against Barcelona in the quarter-final second leg.
