Germany vs Portugal Preview
This is only the fourth meeting between these two nations in the last 13 years and Germany has been the dominant force.
The Germans claimed victory in each of the last three matches, including the 4-2 victory in the group stage of Euro 2020 and the 4-0 win at the 2014 World Cup.
However, past fixtures do not really count for much here and instead, it is more about the recent form of the two sides.
Portugal came from 1-0 down to beat Denmark 5-3 on aggregate in their quarter-final tie, while Germany beat Italy 5-4 across two enthralling legs of football.
So neither side should be lacking in confidence ahead of kick-off, though Julian Nagelsmann is missing a vitally important player in the fleet-footed Jamal Musiala, who is still recovering from injury.
However, Roberto Martinez has a bit of an issue of his own, as three key players – Vitinha, Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes – all played major roles in Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in last weekend’s Champions League final.
So their involvement in his match could be limited as a result, though expect each of them to feature at some point.
But Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes will be raring to go, with Portugal seeking to emulate their success in the inaugural edition of the Nations League back in 2019.
Germany are yet to win this competition and would love nothing more than to deliver another trophy in front of their fans.

Germany vs Portugal Betting Tips
Florian Wirtz to score or assist @ 1.83
With Musiala out, much of the attacking burden lies at the feet of Bayer Leverkusen’s Wirtz, who is being linked with a move to Liverpool. In the 2024-25 season, Wirtz scored 16 goals and assisted 15 more across all competitions, so you can see why we are backing this selection!
Cristiano Ronaldo to score or assist @ 2.40
Ronaldo has recorded 136 goals and 46 assists on the international stage, which makes his odds in this market stand out even more. Additionally, the 40-year-old has already bagged six goals in this edition of the Nations League and netted 25 times in 30 Saudi Pro League matches with Al-Nassr in 2024-25.
Germany to win and both teams to score @ 3.47
But while Ronaldo should have a major say in this fixture, we still fancy Germany to deliver the goods on home soil. Nagelsmann’s side are unbeaten since their Euro 2024 quarter-final loss to eventual winners Spain, who they could meet in the final if this selection lands!
