The third major of the season swings into action this week with the 125th US Open at Oakmont Country Club.
A total of 156 players are preparing to tackle the notoriously tough course, with the first of four days of play scheduled for June 12.
While golf’s majors do love to serve up a surprise winner on occasion, the smart money will be following the fortunes of the pre-tournament favourites.
Rory McIlroy became just the sixth golfer to complete a career Grand Slam of majors by winning The Masters for the first time in April, while World No 1 Scottie Scheffler bagged the second major of this year with victory at the US PGA Championship in May.

The 2025 US Open Preview
McIlroy was on fire at the start of the season as The Masters became his third PGA Tour win of 2025.
But his form has taken a dive since, and he looked out of sorts while missing the cut at the RBC Canadian Open earlier this month.
The Northern Irishman also has previous history with Oakmont, missing the cut there in the 2016 US Open.
Scheffler is the man of the moment, living up to his World No 1 ranking by claiming three wins from his last four events and achieving an impressive eight top-10 finishes from 11 starts this year.
Defending US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau has been edging closer towards a major victory this season, with a T5 finish at The Masters and being tied in the runners-up spot behind Scheffler at the US PGAs.
DeChambeau is proving to be a good place bet, nailing top-six finishes in five of the last six majors played since the start of 2024.
World No 3 Xander Schauffele is also one to keep an eye on. Winner of The Open and US PGA’s in 2024, Schauffele has only failed to make the top 10 once in his eight previous appearances at the US Open.
