The Lionesses kick off their Euro 2025 campaign on Saturday evening with a tricky match against one of the tournament favourites in France.
Sarina Wiegman’s side are the reigning champions following their famous victory on home soil in 2022, during which they beat Germany in the final at Wembley.
But keeping hold of the trophy is perhaps an even tougher task, so the pressure is on the England manager and her array of Women’s Super League stars.

France vs England Preview
Captained by the imperious defender Leah Williamson and with world-class stars in front of her such as Keira Walsh, England are a side to be feared at this tournament.
However, the Lionesses have only won three of their last five matches. A shock 3-2 defeat at Belgium in April was followed by a 2-1 loss to Spain at the start of last month.
In contrast, France have won their last eight matches across all competitions and look well set to go far in this tournament.
Perhaps even more impressively, the French kept a clean sheet in five of the last six matches, highlighting what a complete unit they are these days.
And what makes this match even more intriguing is the fact a talented Netherlands side are also part of Group D, along with Wales – who look unlikely to spring a surprise in truth.
As such, there is absolutely no guarantee that both England and France will go through to the quarter-finals, regardless of what the pre-tournament outright odds say.
England take on the Netherlands in their second group stage match and Wiegman will know just how important it is to avoid a defeat before that crucial contest.
