UFC 318 brings the octagon to New Orleans, Louisiana for a rare pay-per-view that’s completely dedicated to celebrating the career of Dustin Poirier.
The legendary former interim lightweight champion has decided to call time on one of the most fan-friendly careers in combat sport history, and as such has been granted a special retirement party in his home state.
Standing across from him is the ‘BMF’ champion Max Holloway for a trilogy bout that takes both men back to their early UFC careers. Poirier is currently 2-0 up, but this will be deemed the most competitive fight of the three given where both men are in their respective careers.
It’s not an otherwise particularly compelling card, particularly by pay-per-view standards, but there are still some exciting matchups. The co-main event, for example, pits Paolo Costa against Roman Kopylov in a middleweight bout of little divisional significance. The Brazilian is 1-4 in his last five, while Kopylov’s two-fight win streak still hasn’t landed him any higher than number 12 in the rankings.
Kevin Holland and Daniel Rodriguez’s welterweight bout on the undercard is sure to bring some excitement, as is the clash between Michael Johnson and Daniel Zellhuber. However, the most exciting part of the main card is undoubtedly Bellator icon Patricio Pitbull’s clash with Dan Ige in a massive acid test of the Brazilian’s ability to show up at the UFC level.

UFC 318 Betting Preview and Best Bets
There are a number of matchups here that will excite fans and bettors, particularly lower down the card.
One that jumps out to me is this Ryan Spann vs Lukasz Brzeski matchup. Spann is a massive 2/5 favourite, while Brzeski’s a solid underdog at 19/10. For someone as chinny as Spann, it’s a massive price and there’s good value in Brzeski, but I also like the over 1.5 rounds bet at 6/5 if you’re a bit more conservative.
In the main event, let’s think positive and pick a winner by KO, TKO or DQ bet at 6/4. Holloway’s chin has never been in question, but he was brutally knocked out last time out by Ilia Topuria and now up a weight, it remains to be seen how it will stand up to the scrutiny of Poirier. Poirier by KO, TKO or DQ at 17/5 is another interesting price.
If you have a lot of money to put on the table, that 4/11 on ‘Winner by Decision’ in Vettori vs Allen on the prelims is essentially a cheat code. Maybe throw it in a double with Carli Judice vs Nicolle Caliari, which is 2/5 to go over 2.5 rounds for a bit more to your guarantee.
