The fifth and final Test of the English cricket summer begins tomorrow morning at the famous Kia Oval ground in London.

England vs India Fifth Test Preview

India looked well on course to lose the Fourth Test after a 5-fer and a century from skipper Stokes, but calm and high-quality batting displays from Gill, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar saved the match.

The visiting side were 0/2 in the first over of their second innings and somehow managed to finish on 425/4, a quite extraordinary turnaround.

India’s fightback and impressive levels of patience resulted in the majority of England’s bowlers looking absolutely knackered come the end of Day 5, with Stokes’ unfortunate absence one of a number of confirmed changes to the XI.

Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue, Jamie Overton and Jacob Bethell are all part of the side for the Oval, with Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, Liam Dawson and Stokes all dropping out.

India’s XI could also look decidedly different for the Oval Test. Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has been ruled out after fracturing his foot in bizarre circumstances up in Manchester, while Jasprit Bumrah will miss out as part of the pre-series plan to manage his workload.

Dhruv Jurel should come in to replace Pant, while left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is a contender to debut and fill the void left by the brilliant Bumrah.

India’s last visit to the Oval in September 2021 was indeed a memorable one as they claimed a dominant 157-run victory thanks to Rohit Sharma’s fantastic second-innings century.

England vs India Fifth Test Betting Tips

Ollie Pope to score a fifty in the match – Yes @ 2.15

Stand-in skipper Pope, as per usual, has blown hot and cold in this series, but his record at the Oval is very good indeed. England’s No3 averages 64.40 from his six Test innings at the ground. And with conditions throughout the series favouring the batters, this could be a great selection to more-than-double your money. Pope was out for 71 in England’s sole innings at Old Trafford.

Shubman Gill to score a century in India’s 1st innings – Yes @ 4.20

India captain Gill is chasing records in the final Test of the series. He has been a run machine, top scoring with 269 in the Second Test win at Edgbaston. If Gill hit a century at the Oval, that will be five for the series, which would be the most ever by a captain in a single series. Gill is a joint holder of the current record alongside Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar – and we are backing him to move out on his own!
