League One 2025/25 – Matchday 1 Betting Tips

The 2025-26 League One season begins this Friday.

Luton Town vs AFC Wimbledon is the opening match of the campaign, with the remaining 11 fixtures played across Saturday and Sunday, concluding with Stockport County vs Bolton Wanderers.

It should be a fantastic opening weekend in the English third tier, with games as hard to call as ever.

But we have still donned our psychic hat and provided four predictions for the League One action, football betting tips which can be used in conjunction with our Acca Boost feature.

Nahki Wells to score anytime for Luton Town vs AFC Wimbledon @ 2.20

After being relegated from the Championship, Luton decided to bolster their forward line this summer with the addition of Wells from Bristol City. The veteran striker scored 10 goals and registered four assists in the second tier last season, so the Hatters will be hoping he can increase those numbers in League One. And we are backing Wells to enjoy a stellar Luton debut in front of the Sky Sports cameras!

Wycombe to beat Bradford @ 2.60

Wycombe will be looking to go at least one further than last season after losing out in the play-off semi-finals to Charlton Athletic. Mike Dodds’ side finished fifth in the table with 84 points, but could not reach the Wembley finale. However, 2025-26 represents a fresh start for Wycombe and they begin with a tricky-looking trip to Bradford. Something of a ‘sleeping giant’, Bradford earned promotion from League Two in the most dramatic fashion, a 96th-minute winner on the final day. The Bantams will be relishing their return to the third tier, although Wycombe may be too strong and experienced at this level on Matchday 1.

Alfie May to score anytime for Huddersfield vs Leyton Orient @ 2.25

Huddersfield ended 2024-25 with a whimper, losing their last five matches and finishing 10th in the table. However, there is a renewed sense of hope within the club, partly due to the acquisition of May from promoted Birmingham. The 32-year-old forward netted 16 league goals last season and will be eager to get his Golden Boot charge up and running on Matchday 1 against Orient, who he scored the winner against for Birmingham in August 2024.

Wigan to beat Northampton @ 2.11

Former Premier League side Wigan are often unpredictable, though the loan signing of Paul Mullin from Wrexham should give them more of an edge up top. In truth, this is a very hard match to call. Wigan’s home record last season was far from great (seven wins in 23 matches), while Northampton’s away form was pretty dismal (five wins in 23 matches). But hosts Wigan have at least shown some promise in pre-season with three wins from four games, the latest a 1-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers, so Ryan Lowe’s side get our nod of approval!
