The 2025-26 League Two season gets underway today, with all 12 matches kicking off at 3pm UK time.
It promises to be yet another entertaining campaign in England’s fourth tier, with fierce battles fought for the coveted promotion and play-off places.
But right now, the main focus is on a positive start to the term, and below we have predicted some teams and players to achieve exactly that as part of our League Two Matchday 1 sports betting tips.

Alassana Jatta to score anytime for Notts County vs Newport County @ 2.20
Jatta was a standout performer in League Two last season, netting 19 goals in total as Notts County’s campaign eventually ended in the play-off semi-finals. The Gambia international will be looking to increase his output in 2025-26 – and Newport is perhaps the ideal first match for him and the team. Newport narrowly avoided relegation to the National League in 2024-25, finishing 22nd with just 49 points on the board. So we are backing Jatta to get stuck into his work on Matchday 1.
Walsall to beat Swindon Town @ 2.10
Last season, Walsall looked on course to achieve automatic promotion to League One, but fell off quite spectacularly towards the end of the campaign, with Bradford then pipping the Saddlers to the post and condemning them to a failed play-off campaign. So there will be pressure on the Walsall players to deliver from the get-go in 2025-26 and put those bad memories behind them. Up first is a match against Swindon, who finished a lowly 12th in 2024-25. It is still a hard game to call, but we are siding with the home team, and the odds here do look very good indeed!
Aaron Collins to score anytime for MK Dons vs Oldham Athletic @ 2.20
Collins’ arrival from Bolton is part of the reason why MK Dons are highly fancied to either win the title or achieve promotion to League One. Last season, Collins netted 12 goals in the third tier and the onus will be on him to deliver a far higher number, now that he has dropped down a division. Up first is a test against Oldham, who earned promotion from the National League through the play-offs. So it is no surprise that MK Dons are huge favourites for the win, but there is still great value to be found in a debut goal for Collins.
Salford City to beat Crewe Alexandra @ 1.81
Salford just missed out on a spot in the play-offs last season, finishing 8th on 69 points. Recently taken over by a consortium led by Gary Neville and David Beckham, Salford are eyeing the big time and it all starts by getting themselves out of League Two. The quality is certainly there within the squad, although they will want to fix their sub-par home record, winning only 10 of 23 matches in 2024-25 at the Peninsula Stadium. The last two matches between these two sides finished 1-1, but Salford still get our seal of approval to complete this round of League Two tips!
