Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Preview
Much of the focus this Sunday will be on Liverpool’s new crop of players, with the Reds’ squad looking very different thanks to major incomings and outgoings over the summer.
Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are all in line to start at Wembley, which is quite an exciting prospect.
For Palace, it has been a fairly quiet summer thus far, with goalkeeper Walter Benitez and left-back Borna Sosa the only high-profile additions.
Of course, Eberechi Eze is still part of the Eagles’ roster despite persistent links with Arsenal, and he will be desperate to add another Wembley goal to his CV after famously netting the winner against Manchester City in last season’s FA Cup final.
These two sides actually met on the final day of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, when Mohamed Salah salvaged a 1-1 draw for Liverpool at Anfield after Ismaila Sarr had opened the scoring in the very early stages of the contest.
Interestingly, Palace have only won one of the last 16 matches across all competitions against the Reds, which is a pretty woeful record.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Odds
*All odds are subject to change
Crystal Palace are huge underdogs here, priced at 5.20 to claim the win. Liverpool are at short odds of 1.58, while the draw after 90 minutes is 4.20. Remember, if the scores are level after 90 mins, the match goes straight to a penalty shootout!
Oh and six substitutions are permitted per team, rather than the usual five.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Betting Tips
Florian Wirtz to score anytime @ 2.93
Wirtz is used to dealing with pressure, having delivered consistently for both Bayer Leverkusen and the German national team. The young playmaker scored in the 3-1 pre-season win over Yokohama FM and we are backing him to strike again at Wembley. Wirtz netted 10 goals in 31 Bundesliga games last season, with another six strikes coming from just nine Champions League appearances.
Mohamed Salah to have over 1.5 shots on target @ 2.50
But while we are backing Wirtz to score, Salah should also have a major impact in the final third. The Egyptian star had the most shots on target in the Premier League last season (61) and the fact he is on penalty duty only adds to the appeal of this selection.
Bet Builder: Liverpool to win, both teams to score & Florian Wirtz to score anytime @ 5.25
With a Wirtz goal on the mind, this Bet Builder creation has certainly caught the eye. Liverpool’s new-look defence may take a little while to gel, and the fact of the matter is that Palace have a superb front three in Eze, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Sarr. So Glasner’s men should grab at least one goal. But in the end, Liverpool’s undeniable quality and depth should steer them to yet another trophy.
