Wolves and Manchester City begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaigns later today.

Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to challenge for the title once again after an indifferent 2024-25 season.

Wolves’ first priority is to avoid getting dragged into a relegation battle, only then can Vitor Pereira’s side begin looking upwards.

Wolves vs Manchester City Preview

City responded to the failures (by their lofty standards) of last season by splashing the cash in the transfer market.

Former Wolves full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Sverre Nypan and James Trafford have all completed moves to the Etihad over the summer.

So the pressure is on the serial winners to deliver from the outset in 2025-26, with striker Erling Haaland looking to recapture the Golden Boot award.

City suffered a damaging defeat in the last 16 of the summer Club World Cup competition, losing 4-3 to Al-Hilal after extra-time in one of the shocks of the tournament.

The Citizens have subsequently only played one friendly as part of their pre-season, which was a 3-0 win over Palermo.

As for Wolves, the losses of Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha over the summer means Pereira has some tinkering to do with his first-choice side.

Colombian playmaker Jhon Arias has been brought in from Fluminense to fill the void left by Cunha, while Norwegian star David Moller Wolfe will likely occupy the left-wing back role in wake of Ait-Nouri’s exit.

The Wanderers’ pre-season campaign was poor at best, though, as they failed to win a single match and suffered defeats to Santa Clara (2-1), Lens (1-3), Girona (2-1) and Celta Vigo (0-1).

Furthermore, Wolves have an awful recent record vs City, losing nine of the last 10 Premier League meetings – the sole victory coming at Molineux in September 2023.

Wolves vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Anytime Goalscorer – Jhon Arias @ 5.50

Arias starred for Fluminense at the Club World Cup and he represents a very exciting signing for Wolves. The Colombia international scored 21 goals in the Brazilian top flight between 2022 and 2024, while it is also a possibility that he will be on penalty duty. So his odds in this market could represent sensational value and if you wish to take less of a risk, Arias is 3.25 to score OR assist anytime. The 27-year-old tallied four assists in 12 league appearances for Fluminense in 2025.

Player to score or assist – Tijjani Reijnders @ 2.75

Speaking of the score or assist market, Reijnders’ odds really stand out here. The Dutchman scored twice in the 3-0 win over Palermo and he is a renowned goal threat from central midfield, similar to that of Ilkay Gundogan in his City pomp. Reijnders accumulated 10 goals and four assists for AC Milan in Serie A last season and in a team which dominates possession in virtually every game, he could get close to repeating those numbers in 2025-26.

Manchester City to score over 2.5 goals @ 2.62

With Wolves failing to keep a single clean sheet in pre-season and conceding 69 goals in 2024-25, the odds for City to score at least three times at Molineux look very good. Guardiola’s men netted over 2.5 goals in their last four matches, a run which includes a 6-0 thrashing of Al-Ain and a 5-2 win over Juventus.
