Liverpool vs Everton Preview

This is a match which always draws eyes from across the footballing world, and it is made even more interesting by Everton’s positive start to the season.

With Jack Grealish embracing the role of creator-in-chief and registering four assists overall, the Toffees’ last three fixtures have seen them win two and draw one.

A 3-2 success at Wolves was followed by last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, a match Moyes’ side will feel they should have won.

But Everton know that Liverpool represent a serious step up in quality, especially at the cauldron that is Anfield.

Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Atletico was the third consecutive home win this season for Slot, having watched his side beat Bournemouth 4-2 and Arsenal 1-0.

In fact, Liverpool have won all five of their matches across all competitions, with Mohamed Salah continuing to deliver goals and assists.

But new signing Florian Wirtz is yet to contribute in the final third since joining from Bayer Leverkusen, although there is no better time to do so than in the Merseyside derby.

In terms of player availability, Alexander Isak made his Reds debut against Atletico, however, we expect Hugo Ekitike to return to the starting XI due to the Swede’s lack of match fitness.

Right-back Jeremie Frimpong is also available for selection again, but questions remain over the left-back role. Andy Robertson scored and impressed vs Atletico, while Milos Kerkez was hauled off before half-time in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Burnley.

Headaches for Slot, who saw his side claim a 1-0 victory in this fixture last season, their fourth straight triumph vs Everton at Anfield.

The Toffees, who earned a 2-2 draw against Liverpool in dramatic circumstances at Goodison Park back in February, have a fairly clean bill of health and Moyes should deploy his usual team, with Jarrad Branthwaite the only high-profile absentee.

Liverpool vs Everton Betting Tips

Player to score or assist – Virgil van Dijk @ 7.50

Okay, this is a bold shout, given Van Dijk has never recorded a goal or an assist vs Everton in the Premier League. But Wednesday’s heroic header vs Atletico was a stark reminder of his almost unrivalled threat from set-pieces. If James Tarkowski loses him at a corner, it could spell danger for Jordan Pickford.

Dominik Szoboszlai to have over 0.5 shots on target @ 2.20

Szoboszlai is enjoying a fine start to the campaign, and his accuracy from long-range strikes and dead-ball situations always makes him an attractive prospect in this market. His stunning free-kick vs Arsenal will live long in the memory.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to commit over 1.5 fouls @ 3.40

Dewsbury-Hall has committed nine fouls in his first four Premier League appearances for Everton, averaging over two per game. So ahead of a match famous for flying tackles and heated exchanges, we cannot believe how good the odds look here!
