Brentford vs Manchester United Preview
It is a rare occurrence in the Ruben Amorim era, but United will be in a confident mood for their return to the capital after last weekend’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro secured a second victory of the campaign for the Red Devils, although the former is actually suspended for this weekend’s match following his needless red card at Old Trafford.
Manuel Ugarte or Kobbie Mainoo will deputise in midfield, depending on whether Amorim wants to take the game to Brentford or look to be more pragmatic and hit the hosts on the counter.
In truth, opting for the more defensive-minded Ugarte may be a sensible course of action, because Brentford have been good on home soil this season.
The Bees lost all three away matches to Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and – most recently – Fulham, but beat Aston Villa 1-0 at the Gtech and drew 2-2 with Chelsea on Matchday 4, the latter thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Fabio Carvalho.
Furthermore, Brentford have dominated this fixture in recent years, most famously in August 2022, when Erik ten Hag’s United were on the receiving end of a 4-0 defeat.
The match finished 1-1 in March 2024, with the Bees claiming a 4-3 win back in May, Kevin Schade scoring two of the goals that day.

Brentford vs Manchester United Betting Tips
Player to score or assist – Mikkel Damsgaard @ 2.63
Schade’s odds in this market caught our eye, but we are instead opting for Brentford’s creator-in-chief, Damsgaard. The Denmark international scored in the 3-1 loss to Fulham last weekend, and he tallied 12 goal contributions in the 2024-25 Premier League season. Without Casemiro in midfield, United may struggle to limit Damsgaard’s influence.
Bryan Mbeumo to have over 1.5 shots on target @ 2.50
Mbeumo has only scored once in the Premier League this season, the second goal in the 3-2 win over Burnley, but he ranks joint-third in the division for shots on target with six. The Cameroonian is a constant threat from the right flank and against his old club, he will be even more determined to test the goalkeeper’s reflexes.
Igor Thiago to commit over 2.5 fouls @ 2.38
Brentford striker Thiago has already committed 14 fouls in the Premier League this term, the second-highest total behind Fulham’s Sasa Lukic. And he will be looking to assert dominance against United’s five-man defence, so expect Thiago’s foul count to exceed three on Saturday afternoon.
