Newcastle vs Arsenal Preview
Each of these teams enjoyed midweek EFL Cup success vs lower-league opposition, with Newcastle beating Bradford 4-1 and Arsenal winning 2-0 at Port Vale.
It was a welcome win for both ahead of a huge couple of weeks of football in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Newcastle are surprisingly 13th in the top-flight table after five rounds of fixtures, mustering only one win – the 1-0 victory over Wolves on Matchday 4.
Eddie Howe’s side are not conceding many in the league, but scoring is proving to be a bit of an issue, evidenced by the 0-0 draw at Bournemouth last weekend.
The return of Anthony Gordon from suspension could help matters, with summer signing Nick Woltemade still finding his feet in a Newcastle jersey.
But Arsenal are not the ideal team to face when goals are hard to come by. The Gunners have only conceded twice in the league all season, courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning free-kick for Liverpool on Matchday 3 and Erling Haaland’s strike in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta’s side are also enjoying more success in the final third, with 10 league goals scored in comparison to Newcastle’s lowly total of three.
Summer signing Viktor Gyokeres has netted three times for Arsenal, while fellow new arrival Eberechi Eze was on target in the aforementioned victory at Port Vale.
Eze’s first goal came at the best possible time for Arteta, as the Gunners boss has lost Noni Madueke to a knee injury, the winger joining Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus on the absentee list. However, skipper Martin Odegaard looks set to return this weekend from a shoulder knock, which is a huge boost for the North Londoners.
Although while we are on the subject of attack-minded players, goals have actually been few and far between in recent Premier League meetings featuring Arsenal at St James’.
The previous two top-flight clashes at Newcastle’s home finished 1-0 to the hosts, with the now departed Alexander Isak netting the only goal of the game last season.
One of Isak’s replacements, Yoane Wissa, is still absent with injury, and it remains to be seen whether Woltemade is trusted from the start by Howe.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Betting Tips
Bruno Guimaraes to commit over 1.5 fouls @ 1.80
Guimaraes, who was once linked with a move to Arsenal, always seems to be in the thick of it when Arteta’s men play at St James’. The Brazilian midfielder has committed 11 fouls in four appearances this season, an average of close to three per game. So this selection looks like a no-brainer.
Player to score or assist – Anthony Gordon @ 2.75
Gordon enjoys playing against Arsenal. In fact, the England international has scored or assisted in each of Newcastle’s last three home matches vs the Gunners. Gordon was also on target in the 2-1 Champions League defeat to Barcelona last week, and after serving a three-match Premier League suspension, he will be itching to deliver tomorrow afternoon.
Player to score or assist – Bukayo Saka @ 2.05
Saka returned last weekend in the 1-1 draw with City, and looked as sharp as ever during his 45-minute cameo. With another hour of football in his legs from Wednesday’s win over Port Vale, Arsenal’s main man is heading in the right direction. With Eze and Gyokeres in support, Saka’s assist potential is high, while he is always a big goal threat.
