Aston Villa vs Manchester City Preview
Villa are on a roll in the Premier League, claiming wins over Fulham (3-1), Burnley (2-1) and – most impressively – Tottenham (1-2).
But Thursday night saw Emery’s unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end, as Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles achieved a famous 2-1 home victory in the Europa League.
The Villa boss was able to rest several key players, though, and will hope the result has not dented confidence levels too much ahead of City’s visit.
It is a different story for Pep Guardiola’s men, who enjoyed another successful night in Europe on Tuesday with a 2-0 victory at Villarreal in the Champions League.
The Citizens have now won five of the last six across all competitions, while Erling Haaland was once again on the scoresheet in Spain, meaning he has struck in each of his last nine City appearances – last failing to find the back of the net vs Spurs on August 23.
Stopping the Norwegian colossus will be priority number one for Emery and his defence, a feat they have previously achieved.
Haaland has a pretty poor record vs Villa (by his incredible standards), scoring just one goal in four Premier League appearances.
He is yet to taste victory at Villa Park in three attempts, and was pretty anonymous in last season’s 2-1 defeat – a match in which Morgan Rogers was the star of the show.
Rogers looks certain to return to the Villans’ starting XI on Sunday, with Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne the only injury worries for the hosts.
As for City, Rodri and Abdukodir Khusanov are ruled out, while Nico Gonzalez hobbled off against Villarreal and is a doubt, which could spell problems for Guardiola in the midfield department.

Aston Villa vs Manchester City Betting Tips
Both teams to score – Yes @ 1.65
The BTTS market nearly always lands when these two sides clash. In fact, 10 of the last 12 meetings across all competitions have seen both teams find the back of the net. Each side is blessed with potent attacking weapons, so we feel confident this selection comes in once again.
Anytime goalscorer – Erling Haaland @ 1.91
With 11 goals in eight Premier League appearances, and only one blank in the top flight this season, a Haaland goal just feels like a banker right now. Even if his record against Villa is not the best!
Bet Builder: Manchester to win, BTTS & Erling Haaland to score anytime @ 4.20
A combo bet featuring the two tips above, as well as a City win thrown in for good measure. With the extra days of rest and good form behind them, the Citizens look well placed to take the victory here. Although we expect a close match in Birmingham!
