Tottenham vs Chelsea Preview

It is a quick turnaround for both sides following midweek exploits in the EFL Cup.

Chelsea claimed a 4-3 win at Wolves to reach the quarter-finals, while Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle at St James’ Park.

But each side’s last Premier League result was decidedly different, with the Blues losing 2-1 at home to Sunderland and Thomas Frank’s side claiming a huge 3-0 win at Everton.

So it is hard to gauge how this fixture will pan out, though if previous meetings are anything to go by, expect goals!

Under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou, Spurs lost 4-1 and 4-3 to Chelsea in front of their own fans.

However, Frank’s more pragmatic – and sensible – approach to matches should ensure some normalcy in North London this time around.

The Danish boss will also be insistent on his side remedying their poor home record, with just the one win recorded in the top flight, against Burnley on the opening weekend.

Spurs lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in their previous home match, and were also beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth on Matchday 3.

Chelsea won 3-0 vs Nottingham Forest in their previous away match, though did lose 2-1 at Manchester United on Matchday 5.

So this is shaping up to be a very interesting encounter, and player absences could play a role in the outcome.

Chelsea are without the services of Liam Delap due to suspension, the striker picking up a red card on his comeback vs Wolves. More importantly, Cole Palmer – who scored two penalties in this match last season – remains on the treatment table, along with Levi Colwill.

As for Spurs, Archie Gray has joined a long injury list which includes the likes of Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison.

Cristian Romero could make his long-awaited return on Saturday, though, with Frank confirming the Argentine defender is back on the grass.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Both teams to score – Yes @ 1.56

Spurs have scored in each of their last six Premier League matches, while Chelsea have only failed to find the back of the net in one match across all competitions this season. So the BTTS market looks a pretty safe bet.

Both teams to receive 2 or more cards – Yes @ 1.66

Chelsea have been fond of a red card of late, while both teams collect their fair share of yellows. With 35 cautions between them in nine Premier League games, the numbers suggest this selection looks worthwhile. Furthermore, the added intensity of a derby only serves to increase the chance of cards being brandished.

Enzo Fernandez to have over 0.5 shots on target @ 2.00

We were quite shocked to see that Fernandez leads the Chelsea squad for shots on target in the Premier League this season with eight. He is averaging one per appearance, and has a great recent record against Spurs, netting in both of last season’s wins. Interestingly, Fernandez is 6.00 in the anytime goalscorer market, which also seems like a great price!
