UFC 322 Betting Preview: Latest Odds & Best Bets

UFC 322 could be an historic night as two brave champions give up their belts in pursuit of second world titles at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In the main event, Islam Makhachev moves up to welterweight after a legendary run of results saw him break the record for the most lightweight title defences in history. He faces the newly-crowned Jack Della Maddalena, who is unbeaten in the UFC and managed to stifle Mahachev’s old friend Belal Muhammad to win the belt earlier this year at UFC 315.

Then in the co-main event, Weili Zhang finally comes up from strawweight to take on Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight belt. Both women have had impressive runs in their respective divisions, and it will be fascinating to see how the strawweight deals with a move up in weight as she pursues her second title. Shevchenko has a bit of experience in that regard, and might have to do it again if she wins here given her dominance in the flyweight division over the past few years.

It’s also a stacked undercard, with British fans likely to be particularly interested in the fate of Leon Edwards. He returns against the highly-touted Brazilian Carlos Prates in a bout that will be as exciting as Edwards decides to make it

UFC 322 Betting Preview and Best Bets

There are a number of great ways to make money this weekend, particularly given just how stacked this card is.

Initially, you can get yourself a respectable 23/20, just over evens, if you pool together the female fights on the card between Angela Hill and Fatima Kline, Tracy Cortez and Erin Blanchfield, and the co-main event all going over 2.5 rounds (or 4.5 in the case of Shevchenko and Zhang).

Let’s get to the British interest on the card. You can get very good odds of either 4/5 on Winner By Decision or 21/20 on Winner by KO, TKO or DQ in the Leon Edwards v Carlos Prates fight. Both men are exciting strikers, although Prates is quite a bit more explosive and likely to take risks to push a finish. So Prates by KO, TKO or DQ at 13/8 actually looks quite the pick

Sean Brady has taken on an interesting challenge on the main card by agreeing to face Michael Morales. He could have maybe waited out an opportunity in the title picture at welterweight, but he takes a big risk here. Morales at 6/5 looks a good price, I’m not fully convinced of Brady just yet..

We’re going to know what’s happening in the main event from the early stages. If Makhachev lands a takedown early, he will grind the result out and likely even submit JDM. But if it takes any longer than a round or two for that takedown to land, let’s see how that extra weight looks on Makhachev in competition. Winner by Submision at 19/10 looks a decent bet in that sort of circumstance, but that 6/1 on a JDM decision is also worth an outside bet if you have some cash lying around.
