Boxing: Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua Fight Preview

Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua Preview

This Friday (Saturday morning UK time), Anthony Joshua returns to a professional boxing ring for the first time since his devastating KO loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

AJ is looking to get back on the comeback trail, though he is beginning with a bit of a farcical bout vs Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami.

If two-time heavyweight champion Joshua succumbs to defeat, which would be one of the biggest shocks in all of sporting history, you have to feel his career is all but over.

But if the Englishman strolls to victory by utilising his size and brute power, it may signal the beginning of the end for the Paul era of ‘celebrity boxing’.

The storylines – some of them a bit ridiculous in truth – are all there on show for the world, and we have previewed Paul vs Joshua in full, picking out some betting tips based on our latest boxing odds.

Where can I watch Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua in the UK?

Paul vs Joshua will be streamed live on Netflix, with their ring walks expected to begin around 3:30am UK time.

Despite the obvious physical differences between the two fighters, the main ones being an additional five inches in height and six inches in reach for Joshua, this is designated as a professional bout.

It will consist of eight three-minute rounds, with the athletes wearing 10oz gloves – which is the usual gear for a heavyweight clash.

The only rule in place is that Joshua cannot be over 111kg on weigh-in day, and that is a fair bit lighter than he has been for previous bouts.

However, a leaner and more durable AJ could be an even more dangerous proposition for Paul, as the 2012 Olympian looks to avenge the aforementioned loss to Dubois.

It was Joshua’s fourth career failure following defeats to Andy Ruiz and Oleksandr Usyk (x2).

Paul has suffered just one loss in his short professional career, and that was against Tommy Fury in February 2023.

He does have notable victories over combat sports (although not strictly boxing) stars in Mike Perry, Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva and Tyrone Woodley.

But surely this is a step too far, right? After all, 36-year-old Joshua is still in peak physical condition – and has fought in 13 world title fights!

Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua Betting Tips

Total rounds – Under 2.5 @ 1.92

If anything close to the real Joshua shows up, as in the one who beat the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte, Joseph Parker and Francis Ngannou, this should be a very short fight. Nine of AJ’s first 10 professional bouts did not go past the second round, and neither did his stunning KO victory over Ngannou in March 2024.

Round betting – Anthony Joshua Round 2 @ 5.00

With far higher odds on offer, this could be a great avenue to go down. The first round of any fight is usually a cagey affair, even one which is as much of a mismatch as this. But once the bell sounds for Round 2, we expect Joshua to come out with a brutal showing of power and skill, dismantling Paul with ease in front of a baying crowd.
